Thanks for the ride today Guys. I thought I had been dropped on the first climb just outside Buttercrambe but managed to catch you up at the level crossing in Malton only for the barrier to come down and then I had no chance!. Then took a wrong turning out of Malton and didnt realise until a mile down the road to Pickering. Managed to pick up a couple of riders in Haxby but by that time I was dead!
Next time I will be different (I hope)
Thanks again, I enjoyed the chase!

I was off the back even before you...
...puncture for me in Upper Helmsley. I'm the world's slowest puncture-fixer so simply instructed Cam to keep everyone rolling, pulled into an inviting upmarket gateway and got me specs and surgical gloves on. Decided rather than head for the hills in Billy-no-mates style I'd zigzag south and do a couple of laps in the cuddlier surroundings of Escrick. A chance to see if our prince had come (in the shape of the road repair crew); sadly the answer is "not yet". 2½hrs at a brisk pace, and a tyre to replace - the outer had a sizeable cut in it. Far better now than on a Thursday evening though!

Oh well, I suppose I was being a bit naive expecting to be able to ride the training ride on the Malton route, and when they came by on the gentle drags past Malton it was more of a case of watch ‘em go than jump in. Still, I’m starting to go better than I have since last summer and it’s more miles in the bank. As long as work doesn’t get stupid again, the fitness will come.
The lumpy bits and head wind took their toll on the group and it fragmented a little up to Malton. We picked up Broomwagon after Malton and then stopped to water the hedge which allowed us to regroup again. Down to 5 after Terrington Bank. At Sheriff Hutton Toby shot up the hill like a rat up a drain pipe. He then showed that he can not only sprint (as shown on Thursday) but his time trailling ability is not too shabby either. Once Martin and I ( and then Andy) had got our act togther and realised he wasn't hanging about, we never saw him again (apart from his back, disappearing into the distance)...and it wasn't for want of trying on our part ...Mind you, we were held up by those horses
. Anyway..... good hard ride for everyone hopefully...

Had another enjoyable training ride today, once we hit Sherriff Hutton, i put in a bit of a dig to reach the top, seeing i had a decent gap i thought i would try and keep it and see how far i could get. After constantly looking over my shoulder i realized i was somehow managing to stay away, this paranoia continued as i was held up by some horses
and then at every traffic light heading back from Haxby.
Well done again to Martin, who seems to be getting stronger each week.
Average speed of 32.5kmh over 50 odd miles
cheers
Toby
