Request for Marshals 24th June

Post by nigelt »

Not sure if anyone's seen this- pushed out on Twitter today- may be worth helping out, if only for the chance to see the Elites hammering round the local roads and a discount on the Rumble :D :D

Volunteers Wanted: National Road Championships - Sunday 24 June

Why not take the chance to get close to the action at the Elite and Under 23 Women and Men’s Championships, to be held at Ampleforth, North Yorkshire. Needed is a team of 45 Marshals for the course as well as other roles at the Race Village.

With a full day to take in the Best of British, volunteers will receive an event tee-shirt as well as packed lunch and a £10 discount towards a ride in the Ryedale Rumble Sportive on the 2nd September.

To become part of the Championship Team contact Chief Marshal Ian Holmes at ian.holmes@siemens.com Please give him your email and telephone details as well as your tee-shirt size.

I have also put my name down to help, done it a few times already it is really a good chance to see some great racing and the police have a rolling road closure which helps the marshalls.
Are we there yet

Must be a sign of the times that you don't get free entry to the Ryedale Rumble anymore, just a tenner off :(

Recieved an email from Pete Sutton's wife. Pete is the Regional Events Officer for BC and is not too well at the moment but hopes to be there on the day. BC still looking for volanteers. Email says the following:

"As you may be aware, Pete is nominal organiser for the Region RR Champs, which are returning to North Yorkshire this year...Sheriff Hutton/Bulmer/Terrington...and basic plans are in place and entries are coming in steadily. At that last board meeting, 4 Comms, 4 cars drivers and 1 for HQ plus neutral services were found in the room. Just needs a bit of help from local clubs via yourselves to fill in the gaps. The event needs a further 4 car drivers, 5 marshals and 1 for HQ. Traffic management and motorbikes are booked, so should be not too onerous on day...Pete is just hoping he can be there. Anything you can do will be helpful....HQ opens 8am, races at 10am & 10.10am Sunday 20th May 2012....latest finish will be 13.30/14.00. Thanks for your time and anything you can do."

Just to clarify Cam is referring to the Regional divisional road race champs on the 20th May which comprises 2 races running simultaneously - Seniors at 1000 and vets, women and juniors at 1010 on the Sheriff Hutton, Bulmer, Terrington circuit.

The National Road Race Champs is also on local roads based at Ampleforth on the 24th June which is the event Ian Holmes is coordinating the marshalling.
Is their any contact details for the regional champs Cam if anyone wants to help? There are a few of us down to ride the vets and womens race.

Just bumping this back up in respect of the upcoming Divs on Sunday 20th May. Regional events bloke Pete Sutton has been flat on his back due to a detached retina for the best part of ten days, so hasn't been able to chase up arrangements for this as he otherwise would have. He's still short of marshals/helpers for the event. If you're not riding it and fancy watching some top-class suffering then please give Pete a hand and wave a red flag around while you're watching. Offers of help can be emailed to me and I'll forward 'em on to Pete.

...and bumping it up again - have had further phone calls from BC officials who look to be staring disaster in the face. Marshals and drivers needed - if you know anyone who can help (I've pointed out that Clifton's pretty much been doing its bit as far as supporting races is concerned, so feel free to nag people from other clubs out on chaingangs / training rides). It's a big race - there'll be big names there - should be a good spectacle, and lots of fun to watch from the seat of a following car or while holding a Stop/Go lollipop.

I'm sure if everyone with a racing licence just helped out at one race in the season we wouldn't be in this situation.

Phil is right this club does more than it's share. I'm pretty sure none of the guys racing last night are racing the division champs, put a little bit back eh guys. Some of us are giving up our rides to give you a road race league. I've mentioned it on the West Yorkshire gangs, but if it doesn't affect the racing they want to do I don't think they could care less to be honest.
