Tockwith Spring and Summer Series
I've just received a message that the Tockwith Sping and Summer series should be finalised this weekend and the dates will be announced on their Facebook page next Monday morning. Faacebook link: http://www.facebook.com/groups/158239197544781/. Last year they were on Tuesday nights starting mid-May.
I did the spring series last year and really enjoyed it. There were are a few other regulars - Tim, Phil, Cam, Simon Donoghue and Andy. There are 2 races - one for 3rd/4th cats and another for the faster lot. These races are well within the reach of anyone out on the Saturday morning training rides. Roughly they are 50 minutes at a pace of about 25mph+ but with a lot of repeated sprinting out of the corners (apparently a typical crit). However there was a big bunch so the pace is not massively demanding. Most of the skill seemed to be about conserving energy for the spint to the line over the final lap / 100 metres.
I would love to see a bunch of Clifton jerseys really giving this a good go this year. It is on our doorstep, relatively cheap and it doesn't seem to have the same entry lottery of other races. Even if you are just coming for a Tuesday night work-out, you will enjoy!
Please post if you want to join in and then maybe we could do some specific sessions / discuss tactics (ooh er!) for this series with the aim of getting a few Cliftonites into the top 10 and a few BC points to add to our cabinet!

Just to add to this... ...Clifton is one of the four clubs organising this series. We've got off pretty lightly last year and this because much of the more time-consuming work involved in handling advance arrangements and entries has been taken on by the other clubs. However I'll still be going to a few meetings to deal with coordination and we'll still need a few people - three or four should be enough - to deal with signing-on and judging the finish at the two races in the series which we run. Any chance of me not being one of them, nor indeed the others who gave up an evening last year? Volunteers please!

Is it reasonable to suggest that those participating from Clifton give up one of their evenings from the 2 series to help? If we are committed to helping with 2 events, that is a total of 6 people to help out so that means each volunteer just missing one race out of 12? Assuming my maths is right, this seems very reasonable and I would be happy to offer my help. 11 guaranteed entries for one night of volunteering is far better than the Bishopwood (and others) lottery!

Just received this about Tockwith dates:
2012 ! race series & programme is out & ready to rock & roll...
The Tockwith series has 9 clubs involved this season which has grown over the last year and this coming season we've got a race for nearly everybody
Dirtwheels Cycles, Crosstrax, Airedale Olympic, Chevin Cycles, Stlipstream Racing, Harrogate Nova, Clifton CC, Team Cystic Fibrosis, Patron (Harrogate).
Races (1 - 6) 7pm start
8th May Patron 4 only & 2,3,4
15th May Crosstrax 4 only & 2,3,4
22nd May Chevin Cycles 4 only & 2,3,4
29th May Dirtwheels Cycles 4 only & 2,3,4
5th June Harrogate Nova 4 only & 2,3,4
12th June Tem Cystic Fibrosi 4 only & 2,3,4
2 week break for Otley & Brighouse
Races 7 - 12 7pm Start
3rd July Slipstream Racing 3/4 & 1,2,3
10th July Crosstrax 3/4 & 1,2,3
17th July Dirtwheels Cycles 3/4 & 1,2,3
24th July Airedale Olympic 3/4 & 1,2,3
31st July Clifton CC 3/4 & 1,2,3
7th Aug Airedale Olympic 3/4 & 1,2,3
As you can see races 1-6 cater for the cat 4's only & the up & coming 2,3,4
then the second set 7-12 cater for the improved 4's with a 3/4 & then we introduce the Cat 1's as they struggle for evening races too so we make a 1,2,3
I hope everybody likes this format and any feed back at the end of the season will be taken on board.
No overall series or team prizes this time just on the night prize money for the top 3 in each class, & lady in class 1. Also 2 sprint prizes will be awarded in each race.
All entries are on the line this year at the same price of £10.
LETS GO RACING !!
As ever I've been beaten to it by the power of electronic media...
Yup, all details of the series hammered out at a meeting last night; with a lot of discussion and as a result a few changes from last year's format. Encouragingly three extra clubs involved so some are running two and some just one event. Given our commitment to the Thursday local race league (not to mention the RR, vets RR and the city centre races) I kept our involvement to just one. Each event is now just EOL so our involvement is just four people on the night. Circuit and first aid bookings are being handled by the excellent Mike Gill and Pete at BC is dealing with the event paperwork. I put us down for the 31st July since it's maximum distance from all other events that we're running - hope that's okay.
