Need a bike

Post by Flying Finn »

Hello, I am from Finland and will come to York for 12 weeks 6.10.-16.12.11
I would like to make some rides with a bike, but it is to complicated to bring my own bike with. I have no idea what kind of routes there in York are, but I usually ride road bike.
So if somebody knows somebody who would rent/sell/lent me for not too much money a bike for the time, it would be nice. It would be nice to have a road bike, but any bike suitable for some nice tours between 60-120km is OK!
I am 197cm tall and my weight is 98kg. Bike should be about 60-64cm
I also got the tip to check out York Bike rescue.
Thank you very much,
Paul, the flying Finn!

Need a bike

Hi Flying Finn,
i may be able to assist in getting you mobile whilst your in York, I have a steel road bike about 58 cms, which I normally use during our winter rides.
When exactly do you arrive in York?
We may need to meet up after you are here to sort things out.
Also I will be able to introduce you to some other Finns who are living in York as I am a member of the York Anglo scandinavian Society.

Hi Bernard,
that sounds great! But what will you use then? Are there pedals, and if there are, what system?
We will arrive by car in York on Wednsday 5.10. somewhere afternoon and we have a appartment/house at the University campus (Garrowby Way). I have NO idea about York, but we have 12 weeks to figure it out.
I use also a steel bike in autumn and winter (in summer I use a alloy road bike) and I hope that in October there will be some nice days to get out (maybe November also)
I would be also nice to have some contact with other people. I´ll give you my phone number, so we can get in contact.
Thank you very much,
Pavle

Hi Paul,
I think that if you brought over your own pedals along withyour regular shoes, then we can fit them on the bike & you would be more at home when riding,
Also maybe you could bring your own saddle & the same would apply.
If you cannot bring your pedals with you, then currently Look pedals are on the bike with a Brooks leather saddle, would this be oK? If not I have some SPD pedals as well to fit.
Have you registered to use the site ? If so I can send you a PM with my contact details, so that after you arrive we can arrange for you to come to my house & finalise the details etc
