Ron Kit 150 for me with a steady chug round and, as ever, missing out Rosedale "Chimney". Very happy with the day 120 miles all in for the day and 95 miles for the ride itself - both "longest so far this year" milestones. I was struggling a bit on the way back but got a great tow from a small bunch of fast travelling Featherstone Road Club guys for the last ten miles or so.

Otherwise I spent most of the day doing a Billy-no-mates, to which I'm not unacustomed, but did feel it was a bit flatter in atmosphere than previously. And did I really need to fork out twenty seven quid for a plague of blue signs, a piece of fruit cake, half a pot of pasta and a timing chip? The WI saved the food front and I'm more than happy to part with £2.00 for the cracking cakes and good works they do but I fear the epidemic of sportives is, for me at least, getting out of hand and the entry fees are ridiculously high. But then I'm just old, bitter and twisted!

Special mention has to go to Mr Broom who is now officially my greatest hero. Not only did he do sterling Spurn Point work (armed only with a brain and a map and without umpteen road markers at every junction, straight and staircase) but he also was there doing the Ron Kit via the Chimney and giving me some much needed encouragement up Fryup on the way! Well done that man!!

I'm going as well - in my case I'm trying to persuade Mme Mal to venture near the Alps' stages - fat chance I've got but you never know.

I have at last something worthy to report...I did the Open 12 Event as a female pair with Mandy. The event was planned by Wayne (our MTB Endurance Man) and was the best and hardest event I have ever done!
After a team prologue relay of running and navigating round Pickering we then took the North York Moors Railway to Goathland. This was followed by an 8ish mile trail run around Goathland and over the Moors to Newtondale, via a swim in a plunge pool and a climb in a waterfall to collect checkpoints on the way. At Newtondale we collected the bikes and headed via bridleways and checkpoints to Dalby. Here we did the Zip wire in the dark followed by 1/3 of the red route and various checkpoints back to the mandatory 6 hour stop camping in a field arriving at 2am. Here we spent what was left of the night serenaded by the residents' donkeys. After 6 hours we then headed to Appleton le Moor via more checkpoints to leave our bikes and run to the climbing stage. This 10k trail run was horrific with sun blazing down on me making me feel cold and shiver! We bagged 2 medium and 1 easy climb which was not bad considering neither of us had climbed for many years. Relieved to be back on bikes we headed off road to Sinnington bagging more points, then heads down and on road to Pickering. As normal I was slipstreaming Mandy. On the final corner 500m from the finish Mandy had a blow out landing on head which was gushing in blood! She insisted on getting to the finish on her own steam. We finished with 935 points and 3rd placed. The winners had 965 points. Many thanks to super strong Mandy who understood the Voodoo art of Map reading, Wayne and his team for a superb event and the nurse who glued Mandy back together!

But agreeing with Rob not a ride you want to do too often as it is unique and doesn't compare to any other Club run.

Sadly won't be out for a couple of weeks now as I'm off to France to see some of the Tour. Im hoping to see the start on Saturday and some of the stages in Pyrenees.

Jon :)
Well you know Jon, I only did it because you were talking about doing both the Spurn and the Ron Kit, so I needed to find some way to beat you for distance. Enjoy le Tour, bring back lots of goodies from the team buses at the front and tell them to hurry up and bring it to Yorkshire.

Well done to everyone else too, it sounds like it's been an extremely active weekend. Get well soon Mandy!
