Cracked Helmet

Half way up a very big mountain on Saturday, Paul S looked inside my helmet and noticed it was cracked down the middle in 2 places! You couldn't tell unless you looked closely.

I made it down the mountain OK (a little slower than previous descents!) and have ordered a new one. But it made me wonder how long I have been mountain biking and roadying with a helmet which was effectively useless.

I was lucky but I urge you all to check your helmets over. Giro actually said you should replace your helmet after 3 years of manufacture (date is on a sticker inside) regardless of how often it has been worn.

Could your helmet have got damaged in transit to Lanzarote? They can be easily crushed especially if packed with you bike.

Will go check my helmet now

No I always take it hand luggage. I am very careful with my helmet, can't imagine how it happened!
