Clifton CC RR - "Undulating"

Post by fatsprinter »

Many thanks to Phil for putting on an LVRC race this year after the debacle of trying to get permission last year. Top marks for persistency.

I'm not sure about his understanding of the word "undulating" however. The HQ is at North Newbald, which, according to my failing lvrc memory, is at the bottom of North Newbald hill which ramps up, false flats and ramps up again before dragging remorselessly to the start/finish line at the top of the drag. I wouldn't have used the word mountainous, but maybe "hilly"? Maybe I'm just getting too old and fat and trying to fit the name.

Mornin' Colin!

It is indeed the one during which mentinknap famously vomited into his own mouth during the EYRRL race last year. However, the rest of the circuit is pretty flat, so - certainly in comparison with, say, what Dean Fulstow has lined up for the Vic Sutton, it could be worse. Let's just say that I'd generally think twice about entering anything on a really hilly circuit but I'd happily do Newbald.

Pic from moments after the finish of the EYRRL event at http://constructive.smugmug.com/Photogr ... 3966_tLLcQ - see, I'm almost smiling!

Yes thanks Phil and by moving it to Newbald I'm sure it will happen this year.

I like the circuit, from what I remember the hill is a big ring climb, but you could do some real damage on it. I'm looking forward to this one.

I must say it is an excellent circuit. Left turn and it is fast and flatish, usually tailwind - so hard pedalling, no rest, 90 degreee turn, flatish, couple of bends, rolling, descent but pedalling at 40mph, flatish, turn left, short drag and then left onto the hill. It is a good circuit but very very hard with a high rate of attrition. One you are happy just to finish. Vic Sutton is a little harder and definately hillier, but Newbald ranks up there. Good guys big ring the climb, but it does wear you down. Hope you're riding it!! Don't think I'll be racing this year due to family commitments, but you never know!!
