Coast to Coast (C2C) in a day!

Post by m-k-lewis@msn.com »

Dear All

Having done the baggy short version of this over three days on a number of occasions, following a number of routes, I have long harboured the urge to give it a go in a single day!

I am therefore planning to do this ride on Sunday 19th June. It is a truly wonderful ride through lovely countryside - I am sure many of you will know it.

This is one of the longest days, so there will be plenty of daylight. It is also Father's Day so your wive's will owe you one (might be trickier the other way around)! It should also be pretty quiet on the roads.

I will be leaving Whitehaven harbour (by the C2C start sign) shortly after dawn, heading for the traditional finish in Sunderland. I am planning to stick largely to the C2C route, apart from avoiding the obvious MTB sections. The cafe at the top of Hartside is an obvious half-way lunch stop, but there are lots of other opportunities along the way.

I would welcome some company!

I am not planning to do any more organising than letting everyone know the setting off time and suggested route (which I will forward later as I am going on a recce over 3 days in May). If you need accomodation the night before or a pick-up at Sunderland, I am afraid you will have to sort that out yourselves. There are plenty of opportunities to do this for charity if anyone wants, using the on-line giving organisations.

Please feel free to pass this along to anyone you think might be interested. I am also inviting some neighbours and work colleagues, so there should be a few of us and I am sure everyone would be able to find a group of similar speed to ride with.
Best wishes

Mark

I have something that may come up then, but otherwise it sounds like an excellent plan. See you there, hopefully.

A couple of people expressed interest in this, so I apologise for bumping it back up.

If you aren't familiar with the route, have a look at these websites. There will need to be one or two route changes for road bikes, but not many.

It looks like I won't be able to make midsummer weekend. What a pity :(
