Glass on cycle paths !!!

Post by IanH »

Walking up Malton Road this morning I noticed large amounts of small glass pieces mixed into the grit salt all over the the footpath and cycle paths on both sides of the roads, this continued all along the many footpaths in this area, It looks like all this batch of grit salt put down by the council contained a large amount of glass of all colours.

What a smart move, I will be contacting the council to ask if they intend sweeping it all off the cycle paths.

Has anyone noticed this?.

Glass on paths

Post by bernard turgoose »

This is a known element of the mixture used to grit roads & paths etc. But I believe that has been pointed out to the council a couple of weeks ago, & they advised that larger then normal shards of glass had been mixed into the grit & they would be taking steps to try to ensure that it wasn't repeated.
So it maybe that what Ian saw is the old mix,
Bernard

That's interesting Bernard, I've just e mailed them to at least look into sweeping the glass of the cycling sections.

I had no idea that they did this, though you have cleared up a mystery for me. Last 3 times I have been out I have punctured (not having a happy time at the mo!) and twice I have found shards of glass in my tyres. I thought just unlucky, but reading this, maybe not!
