Weekend Roundup

Post by Rob »

Sunday Clubrun
Took a group of 9 around this week. Stayed together in a disciplined group well for most of the time although a bit too much enthusiasm on the front over some of the climbs stretched it out a bit.
Carefully designed route out through Crayke, Coxwold, Kilburn and Bagby. Then back on the flat-earth across the vale to Thorpe Perrow. Its normally quiet in there but yesterday was brimming due to school holiday "haloween trial". Still, pretty spot in the autumn sunshine. Back through Masham, Grewelthorpe and Arkendale.
90 miles Square to Square and JonG gets the hard-man points for riding in and home from Selby. Back in York at not long after 3, helped by some speedy service in the cafe and just one stop for a "scottish tyre". That said, it felt a bit more brisk this week, and I for one felt a bit fragile in the evening.

I'm not out next week, but Heather has put her hand up and volunteered to plan a route and lead it. She says she'll keep it sensible - sounds good.

As a fresh graduate of Will Hoedeman’s superbly run “Easy Riders” I was in for a shock when I joined the “K Group” for the first time on Saturday. It was quite a step up.

That said, I learnt a lot and on reflection, I really enjoyed it – so just like The Governor used to say – “I’ll be back”.

(Assuming Kevin will have me back!)

Thats one way of putting my inability to stay with you on the hills. Not that I was struggling, just struggling to stay with you guys which included 2 hill climb champions in Heather and Paul M. To be honest it was only the stretch after Masham towards grewelthorpe that got me straight after lunch. I got a second wind after doing nearly 100miles and felt pretty good heading home. :)

Not sure wether I'd be upto the Winter Solstice Tan hill ride though. its tough enough in August
