BC races round the York area?

So I live 10 miles from York, I'm coming back home at the start of July, and I am currently thinking of getting a BC license, I did a crit race last night, CAT E/1/2/3/4 combined but CAT3/4 results separate.

It was fun, I got totally owned and lapped, was hanging onto the wrong people and could not overtake, then the main bunch was too far ahead. It cost me 18 quid, the day license was a tenner!

So I'm thinking of buying a BC license but need to make sure it'd be worthwhile and I get some use out of it.

Round the York area is there many races happening? Some that I'd be able to cycle to as well?

Not a great deal. Car essential.

Other events outside BC. TLI good, but car needed again. Try there website.

If you are a giffer like me (over 40) then you have LVRC events.

I haven't bought a BC licence this year after having one for 16 years. First year I have not done BC. Lack of races and sick of getting entries sent back means the law of diminishing returns means it gets very expensive for the few you do.

I have had excellent racing - both hard racing and fruitful (got a fourth)from just TLI and LVRC.

Good luck - I'm sure the Bix could fill you in too on TLI and LVRC - I think he's doing a bit of everything.

I am indeed... ...Have generally tried to flag up what's on via the discussion board. Will's got a couple of decades to negotiate before he's eligible for LVRC events, and I've told him many times that BC events (with the exception of circuit races which are generally EOL) need some advance planning - this year more than ever. There are, as you note, still some TLI races to have a go at - the second Bishopwood event on 20th July which is on your doorstep Will, and the East Yorkshire events if you want to blag a lift out.

I would recommend sending off your entries now for next year. I sent entries off last January for the season and still got a couple sent back!!!

Well I'm not going to bother with BC this year, not enough races it seems.

On Tuesday I'm hopefully going to do a TLi race at a place called Oulton Park, and when I get home, I'll try the one at Wistow, I've messaged the organiser to see if it's EOL.

I want to do the road race on 8th and 22nd July in Etton, but gonna fine if they're EOL too, as I'd only know if I could possibly get there at the last minute, I'd have to ask my dad to take me but don't think he would anyway.

Will - Which of the recommended insurance providers do you subscribe to? BC or CTC are the suggested providers of third party liability insurance as per the Clifton CC membership form

Whilst I do not race BC any more because there are no races for me to do and I'm fed up getting entries back, I do still have BC membership but only with their ride membership which means that you are covered commuting etc.

When I looked into all memberships and insurance benefits, this appeared best for me even though I don't race BC any more. If you have a BC licence then the insurance that goes with Gold membership is excellent. I just didn't want to spend £80-£90 or whatever it is now for Gold membership and racing licence for only getting a couple of races

I'm with CTC, but I have BC Bronze I think, I heard something about Manchester Wheelers having free bronze membership, dunno if it's the same with Clifton but am 1st claim Mcr Whlrs.

I'm actually thinking of getting a BC license now, 2 races I so want to do in Manchester.

I see 2 crits near Hull, only 32 miles from Wistow, if I took it steady, you reckon I'd have energy to race good? I'd have to ride to them.

I also like to look of this race in York on 25th July.

I've found a possible 9 events, mostly on a Sunday which is good. I know I probably won't get into all of them.

FREE - Bronze if you have not been a BC member before and are a member of a BC affiliated club, alternatively you can use the value of the Bronze £13.50 to discount Silver membership from £36.00 to £22.50! Now you’re a member of British Cycling. Silver gives you the insurance covered recommended when you are out on your bike.

So you want to race BC events!!!

Two scenarios here…

#1

Your in the shape of your life and ready to tear up local races…
Get a racing license £32.00… and enter races, some races are oversubscribed so you will have to be prepared to travel, early entry is key.

#2

You feel fit and want to give it a go and see how you get on…
Enter a few races with a day license, event classifications, regional C+ normally 4th only a day license is free, or event classifications regional A or B day license will cost you £5.00, you won’t be eligible for BC
