Runswick Bay, Sunday 23rd, Challenge Series Ride

Post by Rob »

Just a quick heads-up about this series counter (2 points).
Its just a clubrun - no forms, no entry fee, no early rise or drive to the start....
0900 start.
200km (I'll tweak the route to make sure it is!)
More hills than you can shake a stick at.
Out via Hutton-le-hole, Rosedale and Lealholme. Back via Egton, The Roman Road and Pickering.
Cafe stop at Runswick Bay, and short pit-stop/refuelling stops planned half way out and half way back.
There's been quite a bit of interest shown, so hopefully we'll have enough to split the ride into 2 groups.
Hope to see you there.

This reminds me, is anyone else doing the Lincoln 400 audax from Darlington the day before this?

No? Ignore me and answer Rob's post then.

The Div champs have been cancelled so I will be out if the weather is fine.
Do you think we could fit some more cafe stops in though? perhaps a cafe stop in-between the cafe stop in-between the other cafe stop.

Not sure how I'm fixed for this Sunday, but if I can, I'll be along for this, it's always a pleasure to attend a Rob O. masterclass in ride leadership. I hope there will be a less frenzied group though, as there'll be a fair few of those things which really don't agree with me on this ride: hills. Must also remember to put plenty of food in my pockets for use betwix cafe stops .

Hey Steve, if you avoid the food between stops you'll lose the weight that impedes you on the hills - simples!

I won't be along for this after all. Shame though, good company, lovely weather, excellent scenery - have a good day. I'll be chasing Phil's wheel for three hours on Saturday instead.

Just where did you chaps go yesterday?

I did intend to see you in sq and ride along for couple of hours but must have missed by a few mins. At whicb point i changed plan and headed to favourite stomping grounds around Howardian hills.

The mystery is i first saw you Terrington way? And was even more amazed to cross again in down town Slingsby when i was on way home.

I am guessing Rob came up with a ninja route snaking around every best road in N Yorks?

Hi Mark

Nice to see you a couple of times yesterday, here is the route we did.

It was a great day out in very warm weather with good company, also thanks to Rob for leading us round and coming up with the route.

Cheers

Yes, an excellent ride and yes one of Rob's fractal routes to make up the distance.

Really warm day made it hard - for me at least - to maintain hydration. I was feeling rather nauseated by the time I got home and didn't pee for hours!

Sorry I had to split off and get back - marital harmony was maintained!

Thanks to all for the company and especially to Heather for being a hare for this hound to chase up those hills. Hope Shaun got back OK and gets the bike fixed.

Same for me. Superb ride great weather and scenery and thanks to Rob for leading and everyone else out for the company. However I was grateful on return to York for a lift back not sure whether mind or boby could have done another 15 miles back home, I'd been dropped off in the morming so the option was there just in case but it was rather later then anticipated so bailed out.

Just a pointer to anyone who has done the Tan Hill Ride but was it just me who thought this ride was a fraction harder or was it just the heat that took its toll. From the Garmin stats from last yr (which I need to check to confirm) I would have thought there was nearly has much climbing involved even though its about 12 miles less distance. But at least because of the heat it was good training for the l'Etape in July.

Got back okay and no further breakages - just fed up not able to continue what up to my mechanicals had been a good ride. Stoped in Hovingham for water and ice cream before finishing an uneventful ride back to York. Glad the ride seams to have been successful though not without its moments.
