Weekend Roundup 9th/10th Jan
Managed to have a beautiful ride from FridayThorpe on Saturday. This went via Thixendale Road to Thixendale, Uncleby Hill, Thixendale, Burdale Station, back to Fridaythorpe. Only had two hours but it there were good views, no traffic bar a few farm 4x4's and some ramblers. The snow was about 3 to 6 inches deep but was relatively grippy as their has been hardly any traffic. I think everybody thought I was off my rocker but only had one real slide on the whole ride and managed to get up most of the hills on the bike. I must say the Trailraker tyres on my MTB are excellent on snow as I was expecting to be doing a lot of walking.
Well done Jeff.
My ride was a little different. Went to Castle Howard again, starting from Welburn. Mostly off-road as by Sunday the tarmac was very slushy and didn't fancy frost-bitten bum-cheeks. But on the bridle-ways the snow was much deeper than the week before, usually up to my BB, often drifted much deeper. Spent an aweful amount of time lugging/dragging the mtb and was overtaken by a runner at one point (the only soul I saw in 3.5 hours). Still, on the plus side, my cardio-vascular system got some use and I didn't have to stare at the garage wall for an hour. Used long forgotten muscles and felt quite battered by the time I got home.
Hopefully back to terra-tarmaca this weekend........?

Strictly on-road for me. After giving in to Friday's sub-zero peak and buying a turbo trainer, I found Saturday was warmer, so I got the woolies on and set out for an hour of A-road tempo work. And then the same on Sunday. It's not inspiring (Thixendale in the snow must have been pretty spectacular!) but it gets the bike rusty instead of me.
Low-light was riding back into a bit of a breeze on sunday and getting salty spray blown into my face. Mmm... tastes bad.
Fingers crossed for a gangrene-free weekend.

Jeff you should have joined us!
My 'Lanes and Tracks' ride from Stamford Bridge turned into a 'Lanes and Snowdrifts' workout around the Wolds. Off-Road was out of the question. It was hard enough pedalling through the deep stuff on-road and 30miles in 3 hours doesn't sound much but there wasn't a lot of free-wheeling going on. A bowl of hot soup in Middleton kept the frostbite at bay.
