Does anyone use / have experience of Speedplay Frogs?
I'm thinking about getting a pair of these, as I've heard good things about Speedplay pedals, and generally prefer to have actual soles on my shoes. Has anyone used them, and what was your impression? How fast do the cleats really wear out, if you're using them on-road only?
Hi G
I use speedplay pedals but not the frogs model but I think the principal is about the same, I like them because they are double sided and offer a lot of float which is good for anyone with knee problems.
You have to take care with the cleats as they are quite expensive to replace so it's worth buying a pair of the "coffee shop" cleat covers to put over them when walking they prevent you slipping too.

Hi
I've used both.
Used to have frogs on my winter trainer and X series on other bikes. I found that my foot could release at high cadence with the frogs (i.e. 100+ rpm).
Now have X series on all 3 road bikes and they are excellent performance wise. The free float is fantastic. Only down side is that the cleats can only last between 1,000 and 2,000 miles (think Speedplay claim 3,000+). Personally can live with this as only do 3,000 to 4,000 miles a year and the performance is just so good (far far nicer on my knees than looks, spd etc).
Hope that helps.
Cheers
