Views needed on 'Tuesday Ride'

Post by Dr Dave »

For some months during the earlier part of the year - mainly following Gill C's initiative - some members have been going out on Tuesdays, starting from the Square at 9 - 9:30. Generally the aim has been to get back about 3pm with a cafe stop, covering 60 miles or so at a reasonable training pace.

Now that the autumn term is starting the idea is to recommence these but it occurs to me that it would be better to explore what the overall thoughts are for Tuesday rides.

How many people know about them/might be able to join? What start time would suit most potential riders?

I can't see that it's wise to advertise a regular ride unless it's clear that at least one person will be out every week. Work permitting I will hopefully be able to make it a fair bit. I expect Gill will post detailing her ideas/availability. Brian, Mark, 'The Heffs', Amanda, Helen, Dave C and a number of others have been participants this year.

Ideally there'd be a group of maybe 8 who would turn out fairly consistently with an average of 4 or 5 actually pitching up each week. More than this is unrealistic I suspect.

Anyway please submit thoughts and hopefully availability to participate!

I'm looking to try and join this ride once it's back up and running. Dr Dave took me on a jaunt to Otley pre summer and it was a good mid week workout.
I work freelance and if I know this is going to be a regular thing I can try to book work around it.
Any time is fine for me to meet, ditto on the "if it's earlier we have more scope for routes / distance etc." however 9 / 9:30 is probably a good base for those with child dispatch / collection issues :-)

Should be joining you on this tues (8th)

I can always be at the square for around 8.30am and need to be back at Poppleton for 3.45pm, but am quite happy to head back on my own if required. I like the pace and the hillyish routes and can make it most weeks.
See you Tuesday!

I would like to come out but would not be able to meet up before 10am and would need to back by 3pm. Like Gill I am happy to split from the group and ride home alone.

So a route that left the Square at 9:30 and came out via Bish would enable you to make it Helen?

I've just stared riding with the club after moving to York from Manchester. I've done a couple of Sunday runs but struggle to get out every weekend due to various commitments. I'd be interested in a mid week jaunt, ideally getting back for 2pm ish.

OK, just to confirm that I will be out tomorrow, leaving the Square at 9:30, aiming to be back in York around 2:45. Route can be tailored to suit those present but I'm thinking of Bishopthorpe - Tadcaster - Cattall, Aldwark - Easingwold and back round with a 30mins cafe/lunch stop.

All welcome!

8 riders formed the Tuesday group this week. A combination of a prolonged shower and mud-laden tractors using the lanes meant that we were covered in a fine spray of mud and muck by the time we reached the cafe in Hovingham with 50 miles up. A brief lunch and then we turned for town the direct way back at a good pace into a stiff breeze. Thanks to all for fun - albeit it dirty - ride.

Same again next week?

.... I'd love to join in, but my only day off during the week is Thursday. Would anyone like/be able to meet up for rides on a Thursday?

Unfortunately my efforts on the Brompton racing resulted in a sprained knee and bruised coxxyx. I'm still hoping to be out tomorrow but it will be for a leisurely cruise only. I'll aim to be at the square for 9:30 if anyone is keen - alternatively if some folk wish to have a 'proper' ride to keep the momentum up after last week then fine.

I'm working this week so can't make it, should be fine for next Tuesday though. Hope the recovery goes well in the mean time Dave, those pesky Bromptons.
Mark.
