TAN HILL 2009

Post by Rob »

Was talking to Helen about this on the clubrun and as chez Scull is off line at the moment we agreed I'd post.

Date: Sunday 23rd August
Destination: Tan Hill
Departure: 0730, Exhibition Square
Entry: Free
Distance: 142 miles (80 odd of these are pretty flat, the rest are, erm, not flat)

This ride is usually run as an Audax, but this year is "just" a clubrun. It's part of the challenge series and is classified as HC (3 points). The Beryl Welburn Trophy is awarded to the most meritorious ride by a lady.

We're expecting a big turnout and will organise at least 2 groups on the road. One "spiritted" ((c) Howard), the other "efficient".

Come prepared. Most will be out there for around 10-13 hours. You'll be up in the mountains where the weather can be unpredictable and a common feature of watersheds is.... water. If you're unsure then ask the more experienced riders in the club - you'll be able to tell who's ridden the event in the past by the "thousand mile stare".

Please post if you're planning to ride.

To help your preparation, Helen is planning three suitable rides, in staged levels of challenge for the three Sundays leading up to the 23rd. Details to follow.

If I get out for the next few weekends I hope to be fit enough to ride.

50 miles at a steady pace did for me last Saturday so I've got a way to go :(

Both myself & Cath will be in the "efficient" group. I'll be saving myself for the following week!

Another first timer. I like the sound of 'efficient' as well.

Clifton Road Race - Or Tan Hill? Tan Hill or Road Race?
Can't decide. Maybe both - and a good lawyer.
