Sunday Club Run 26th April - Spurn Point

Post by BroomWagon »

Sunday's Club run is to Spurn Point. I'm expecting us to have 160ish miles on our clocks by the time we get back. We'll need to make progress, ideally you should be the sort of rider comfortable riding the Saturday intermediate ride/Sunday club run (or better?). This is, however, about the flattest 160 miles you could do and this is a club run, we will NOT be leaving anyone behind and I'm intending two cafe stops (Withernsea and the Humber Bridge Visitor Centre).

We'll be away from the square 9.00am sharp, we should be back before dark. I shall be bringing some small emergency lighting, you may want to do the same just in case we're plagued by punctures (especially if it's me fixing 'em).

I'm intending to use the Transpennine Trail through Hull - pedestrians have right of way here so if there's a lot of us we'll need to split up into groups for this section, give way and be courteous.

I shall post something later giving an indication of the route.

Hope you enjoy the day, I can promise you some roads you haven't been on before.

PS this is also 3 points for the challenge series - an absolute doddle compared to the 3 points you get for the 220K Dales Grimpeur. :D

Point of clarification:
Helen advises 8am start on other thread - BW, you state 9am start. Experience dictates this ride is 12 hours door to door. I would urge prudence (and I'd take LEDs with a 0800 start...).

You may say "what Prudence does is up to her", but you get my point?

See you Sunday, whatever time.

BUT what about my beauty sleep - you don't look this good getting up at 7.00am, no surprise then that I'm up on work days at 5.55am

Very well 8.00am it is then, it'll get us well on the way - we'll be in Withernsea for elevenses.

It's now 8.00am at the square everyone, arrive at 9.00 and we'll be gone.

I plan to do this ride and have taken note of the 8am start, the only reason if I am not there will be due my left rear cheek on mi bum still feeling like its been kicked by a horse after last nights TLI race.

I intend to do this ride, the 3 points will help me in the challenge series to achieve my goal of 12! Not done a ride this far for a few years but if you don't push yourself and all that!

See you at the square for 8am.

I also intend to get out for this, although the idea of cycling past my office in Hull isn't that inspiring on a weekend!

I am thinking about doing this but it is nearly twice my longest distance.

Any idea what is the furthest distance we get from a rail station in case I need to bail out after 100 miles.

Sunday Spurn Point Ride

Post by bernard turgoose »

Good to see that it is 8.00 start, hopefully I will be able to get all the way round without having to make my usual start at Skidby etc. The nearest rail station will be Hull but if on the return it will be approx 115 miles !!
see you all then

Just a heads up guys, with this talk of catching trains home, whilst this is a club run, it's a 3 pointer in the challenge series. Whilst this the easiest of the 3 pointers, it's a challenging ride due to the distance, - if you've not done 100mile rides before its maybe not your thing.

This will be an ideal preparation ride for people riding the 300K Audax and/or the Dales Grimpeur.

I expect we'll be riding at 17-18mph on flat roads (maybe faster if every one's comfortable).

Mind you with all this tough talk, I'll probably be the one catching the train home :(
