Ok buddy, am planning to ride on tuesday evening, is that chaingang? What time and place to meet up? Also I think there is a Wed evening ride but im not sure of time and place.leadshoes wrote:Hi there
I'm leaving early on Monday, will probably do the Tues ride with Cycleworks at 6pm, then will be working from Leeds on Wed so looks like this week probably isn't a goer. I'm then cycling in Northumberland for a week after that. I'll e-mail you when I get back though. Mondays are probably best for me - leaving Uni around 4.30/5pm.

There are a number of chaingangs on Tuesday evenings. The York Cycleworks one (pop into Cycleworks and have a word with Frazz and he'll give you details), Clifton's one which heads West through Rufforth and which is, probably, about to become the subject of another thread on here, and the "beginner's chaingang" out around Appleton Roebuck if there's support for this - it worked well last year as an intro for people who wanted to have a first go at racing in the TLI series.
Not sure what the plans are re the Wednesday night rides, but I'm sure someone who regularly does them will post and let us know.. ..Anthony? Ian?

Why don't you put your mob numb up. I don't mind riding out your way and then doing an hour. That way we can decide last min rather than make plans on here.willhub wrote:Might have to be next week now, my parents are having me doing stuff this week to "earn my keep", so cant really make many decisions on a time untill the last min.
I have a loop, goes to york, up taddy road, through york, then through fulford, back onto road to naburn and then to Wistow.
Could do that some day?
Also one other question, are you sure you usually average like 22MPH on a MTB? You sure that aint KPH? I cant even average 22mph on a road bike unless I've got a number on my back and a 10mile route in front of me, when I am really pushing it I'm doing 19-20mph average max on my road bike. I had a MTB with slicks once and 16.5mph was going quite good.

On a MTB?? Nah man cant believe that, does not compute, It does not make sense,

Sounds like it's a hybrid tbh.
Apparently according to Alice you are some super fast TT guy so maybe that's why
I want to come out with you sometime and sit behind you, I want you to go as fast as you can on your hybrid and I'll try to keep up, alice recommended it, might be some good training.

Will,
There are plenty of people out there that can average 22mph on a MTB. There are plenty of people out there who who can cycle much faster than that. Let's put this into perspective, a couple of years ago I had what I consider for me good fitness, I'd done a number of long hard cyclosportives and I was training regularly with the VC york chaingang. One chaingang was mid summer and everyone had a good level of fitness. Things were really getting going on the way back, the group was giving it, it's all riding through and off at 26-28mph. I was fully committed as was I suspect most of the group. Then Jamie Sharp just comfortably rode off the front of the group ( a group of fit cyclists giving it 100% ) as easily as that not to be seen again. I don't know Jamie that well, but I suspect if you asked him he'd tell you he was nothing special. There are people who could ride away just as easily from a group of Jamie Sharps riding fully committed, it's just you've never ridden with one. When you do I think you'll find it a sobering experience. So when Andy says he can average 22mph on an MTB - don't be too surprised if he can. If he can't...so what, it doesn't matter.
