Information received from Ian Sikora of Singletraction which may be of interest:

Singletraction is very pleased to announce its involvement in a brand new MTB development in York.

The City of York Council has commissioned a design of a three phase bike park based at the Rawcliffe Country Park, just next to the Park & Ride station. Phase one is to be funded by Big Lottery and will focus on providing a facility for children and young people, with phases two (for more experienced riders) and three (a multi user track) to follow when funding had been secured. It is currently in the design stages, with Dinsdale Moorland Services Limited doing the course layout, and work will hopefully begin in the springtime, subject to planning permission being granted by this time.

Part of the tender requirements state that volunteers are to be involved in the construction, maintenance and ongoing development of the park. This means whoever is doing the building will be looking for local support and input, both with planning and building.

Between now and when the first shovel hits the ground, we need to build up local interest to gauge what sort of response can be expected when construction begins.

More news will be posted as and when it develops, but in the meantime, if you live in the York area, here is a great opportunity to get involved with what promises to be an exciting new venture.

To register interest, and to receive future updates on this project, please email iansikora@singletraction.co.uk

Further communication from CoYC:-

Dear Mountain Bike Enthusiast,

You are invited to attend a consultation evening at Rawcliffe Country Park, York on Thursday 3rd March 6.00pm - 8.00pm.

The consultation will be regarding the design and initial phases of the proposed Mountain Bike Track within Rawcliffe Country Park. The project forms part of the Taking Play Forward portfolio.

The track is being designed with children and young people's needs in mind and we would therefore appreciate any young people attending to hear their views. If you work with any children or young people who are keen mountain bikers or would like to have an opportunity to develop their mountain bike skills and they are unable to attend, please bring with you their thoughts, hopes, questions and concerns.

This project is considered to be an excited development for the adventurous activities offered in York and your contributions are valued and appreciated.

Please let me know if you will be attending as the venue does have limited space.

If you are unable to attend, please forward any comments which will be passed on to the designers / project team. Please feel free to pass this invite onto other interested parties and ask them to confirm their attendance.

Kind Regards,

Liz Burkinshaw
