Joined Rob for the Tan Hill warm up this Sunday. Six of us (Rob, Dave C, Paul M, Nigel, Heather, and myself) left the square in high spirits on the cold bright morning. An icy incident claimed half the group after little over 10 miles, two deciding that another 90+ miles isn't the best treatment for bruised bodies turned back.
Robs route had a bit of everything after the ice and frost, sun, rain, mud, hills, flats, rolling sweepy bits, a puncture, a dog, darkness, hot pud and custard, the seafront, a really annoyingly bumpy fake cobble road surface.
See what more can anyone ask as preparation for next weekend.
Well done Dave for grinning through the torn jersey and road rash.
Thanks to all for a splendid winter jaunt to the sea.

Having spent the previous evening fitting a pair of Vittoria Open Pave CG,s, like what the Pro's use in Belgian for the cobbles, bad roads and wet conditions (well thats what it says in the blurb) an event that had cost me a small fortune and two tubes even before I'd left the house, can you guess who's the puncture was? But they were great on the fake cobbles on Scarborough seafront!
As has been said a great day out with a bit of everything. Cheers for some confident navigating Rob especially in and out of Scarborough.

After making our way to Wetherby via Wighill, we saw the first results of the recent wet weather with the exit out of the tunnel at the end of the Wetherby cycle path littered with a lot of large & small debrie that had been left after the lower part of the tunnel had been flooded. A design fault me thinks, as the Wetherby end of the tunnel is much lower that the rest of it, so everybody who uses it in the future especially at dusk or later be careful !!
After this we continued up the old A1 route before heading over to Whixley & then back down Rudgate to bilton before heading to the village hall in Tockwith & a super spread of food for a fiver, the singing & company was great,

Saturday's Intermediate ride saw 10 riders take in the flatlands, South of York for a change, with a route to Howden!
We hadn't gotten far down Stockton Lane when yours truly provided the 1st puncture stop! Bah! Thanks to Rich for helping me out with stronger fingers and for the human track pump impression!
On the road again, we took in Goose corner (they're still there!), Stamford Bridge, Barmby Moor and then Arthur took over the navigation-helm, through Thornton Woods, Faggathorpe and on to Howden.
Not knowing the best Howden cafe, we chose the one at the back of a deli named 'The Cheese Shop' - to be recommended: good food, reasonably priced and comfy chairs!
Not sure how popular my return route was, which took in Barmby tidal barrage and an off road cycle path. The reasoning was that we were able to take in a quieter lanes route home via Hemingbrough and Skipwith.
We were, however, plagued by 3 more punctures (!), but these may well have manifested whatever the route.
Some good riding by the group, thanks for the company and wheels to follow: Pete, Rich, Arthur M, Cath (good to see recovered now from her bout of flu), Elaine, John C, Simon, Ed and Darren.
Cheers

The H group met at 9am with Howard turning up on his commuter bike in jeans, sadly to say he was not feeling too good but it was good of him to bring us the route map, so only 3 of us Shaun, Chris C and I set off for a route which took us through Howsham into the wolds then across the A64 at Brompton to the cafe stop at Thorton dale, Chris had cut off earlier above Malton and by this time I was hanging on to Shauns wheel with my legs feeling very heavy.
A good lunch at the cafe and I felt no better than before but thanks to Shaun for the tow back home, over 80 miles in total.
Apart from that although quite cold the weather was good for cycling.

Typical, the first week I miss for a while and the intermediate ride goes somewhere close to home. Well that was my reaction at least on the Thursday when the update was emailed. I knew I was working early Saturday so was unlikely to make the 10am start. Anyway I decided as I was back home for about 11am to ride out to Howden myself to see if I met anyone. I hung around in Howden for about 30mins but did not see anyone arrive. This was about 1230-1300, what time did you guys arrive? I then headed back out towards Foggathorpe thinking I might see ypu coming trhe other way but no luck. So decided to head back via Selby as I cant cross the river at the Cawood at the moment as the bridge is still shut. Not sure whether I'll be out this weekend yet but if not hope you all have a good Xmas and New Year.
