A trip to the seaside for the inters on Saturday. Filey the destination. With some regulars missing just 7 were out. Along with myself were, Graham, Dr Dave, John B, Ian W, Tony, and new comer Tom, hope you enjoyed the ride Tom and hope to see you out again :D . Good conditions with light winds and reasonable temperature meant for a consistent pace throughout the day and despite a few splits on the longer climbs good group riding. Stopped at the cliff top caravan park cafe whilst the only shower of the day passed over. It stopped thankfully before we set off again. Only navigational issue we had was the when Dave, Tony and graham took the turn to Kirkham Abbey and the rest of us went the way tony thought we were going, back to the Malton road and back thorough howsham. We met each other again at the junction from crambe and headed back to York. I made it 93 miles. Hope to be out next week so see ya then :D

A great weekend just gone with lots of activity. Apart from the trip to the seaside above I know that Kevin's group followed an interesting route (and hopefully Dawn recovering from her "chute"?) Meanwhile a few others have ridden to the Isle of Man and back...

The Sunday Ride was an absolute classic, under late summer blue skies, and clear views. Boltby Bank and Chimney Bank with a new café at Dalehead Farm between. Coffee on the lawn with the view down Rosedale has to equal the best café stop of the year?

Thanks to psychoAndy, AndrewL, George, Sam and Muzzy for the company.

It's the annual Dirty Clubrun next Sunday, I'll post separately.

IanH Dave Cook and I set off for the Isle of Man on Friday morning. Ian and Dave from York and me from home near Thirsk. Credit for this mad idea must go to Mike Hughes of TdF fame. Mike now lives a very full life and could not make the trip.
We had arranged to meet at Pateley Bridge at 6.45-7. However I was running a bit late and misread a text from message from Ian. Thinking they were just a couple of minuets ahead. I Set off to chase them down.
I reread the message after Settle. Only to discover they were running later than me. We met in the end at a place called Wray just east of Lancaster. Ferry from Heysham. We could have taken a more southerly route to the port though the Trough of Bowland this involves a tad more climbing.
We managed to keep a couple of pints down even with a force 8 gale rocking the boat about. Its around a four hour crossing. Our hostel was 11 miles from Douglas near Peel on the West coast of the island. We had the place to ourselves at £15.00 per night it was brilliant value.
Saturday we had a easy 50 odd mile ride around the north of the Island couple of stops. Some busy roads and some fantastic quiet lanes over the mountains. Countryside reminded me of Ulster which we could just see on the horizon from the north of the west coast. Weather was fantastic we finished the days ride with another couple of pints in a beer garden overlooking the sea at Peel. As we were leaving the pub garden a lady asked if we were brothers. Ian replied yes and the worst of it is our mother still insists on dressing us up the same.
We boarded the 8.15 ferry on Sunday morning. Had a flat calm crossing. Docked for 12.15 cycled home the same way we had come on Friday with fantastic views of the Yorkshire 3 Peaks. I was at home for around 7pm with 260 miles done. I am going back as I now want to see the southern half of the island.
Great weekend in the company of my new extended family.

The observant of you may have spotted a factual error on Robs account - it was Blakey not Boltby Bank although both are on the same painometer level. Now that would be a challenge ride - Boltby, Blakey and Rosedale on the same ride - maybe chuck in Carlton for laughs! I've been out of the country and although been doing a bit haven't done any big rides for a few weeks. I was actually only out for the morning and took a right at the top of Blakey and down to Hutton le Hole (narrowly avoiding a collision with a sheep, a car and a motorbike as we all passed on the same piece of tarmac travelling in different directions) as the others went left to Rosedale. Ideally I could really have done to have got the bus home from that point however the reality was I had a 35 mile ride home alone into a block headwind. 78 miles and I couldnt get the average over 17 mph and it was slighty less than that by the time I fell through the front door.
