Weekend Roundup 30/31st July

As ever, lots of riding done by the Clifton this weekend, my ride out was the Sunday Clubrun.

Quite a gathering of old friends and new faces in the Square. Super conditions for a clubrun. Bright, fresh and great visibility. Classic route across the Howardians, thence Great Barugh and Appleton. Turned right at the inn on the Rosedale road and up onto the escarpment above to the Egton Lane. The ribbon of tarmac rolled across the vivid greens, browns and purples onto Glaisdale Rigg. Someone behind me said "you don't get this on the chaingang...."

A left turn for Street saw us fly past our right turn on a 25% descent, so we pressed on with what turned out to be a cracking little lane around Fryup Dale. Talking of which, the breakfast in the cafe at Castleton was worth the ride....

Return via Westedale, Blakey Ridge, Surprise View etc. Richard had said earlier that every Sunday Clubrun he'd ever been on had an average speed of 16mph, and to ensure that this followed the pattern, he went to the front for the last few miles and towed us in at an unfeasible speed. 100 hilly miles and back drinking a mug of tea well before 5pm. Legs buzzing.

Mention in dispatches for IanH who'd covered 100 miles on Saturday with the Saturday crew also. And for George, for whom this was a step up in intensity - battled gamely with the gradients all day with never a complaint.

That's me signing off the Sunday Clubrun for a few weeks on otherwise engagedness. Andy, Steen and Jonny will look after you though. Watch this space.

A lot in the square on Saturday which meant the largest group for a while for the trip to Bridlington. 13 including, James, Ian w, Graham, jai, Ben, Pete, Ian h, John b, rich, Tony, 'kadence' kev :D , and along with myself the welcome return of Matt. First of all well done Ian h for completing 200miles over the weekend puts my mere 130 to shame  . Curiously we had a tailwind outward leg which became a head wind closer to the coast and vice versa for the return journey but that did not effect the pace through out the day with some strong riding on the front. Blue skies in Bridlington and it does feel like you've got somewhere when you head to the coast. Nice choice to head anti clock wise which made for a change of scenery when heading in the opposite direction. :)

Hope to be out this weekend if most are doing the 3 bridges ride? Was thinking of riding to York as usual and riding the route and probably branching off on the way back to York somewhere. Still need to work out where though. Assuming the route is similar to previous editions probably somewhere near Goole.
