Went with the A group on Saturday heading to Otley
On leaving Otley I started to fill light headed and not very
well so decided to head for home The other guys wouldn't
let me ride home by my self so stayed with me all the way back
to York. I managed to ride home safely and feeling a lot better.
Thanks guys for the company and for looking out for me, much
appreciated. That's what makes the Clifton such a great club.
Arny

Glad to hear to made it home safely, Arny!

On Saturday evening, I called Graham to get your number, and he ended up calling Kevin, and I think after speaking with you, he called me back to relay the news. On speaking with my Sister (an RN) later that evening (she had a splendid day out with a reduced K-group), I'd suggest that you speak with your GP, we know you're a hard-man, but just to be on the safe side...

Jon and I were taking a quick count in the square and expected eight riders for the trip to Ilkley, imagine our surprise when we stopped after the A59 lights at the Ainsty pub and counted fourteen, and then TonyG blasted through, only to leave us at the Bekwith Lane roundabout, as he went straight for Wetherby Rd and we branched left, heading for Askham Bryan.

Despite the large group, we maintained a steady pace and kept together through Wetherby and up to the Kirkby Cliff viewpoint. I understand that Mark was suffering a bit and had mused about going back early. We lost track of him on a climb around Weeton. RIch went back for him, with no luck, while I waited for them to catch up to the group. Hope you got back ok, Mark.

Upon reaching Otley there was a discussion about not wanting to go out and back to Ilkley, so we settled for a cafe stop there and later headed out to Askwith, where the sunshine made a late appearance. We regrouped at the top of the challenging Askwith Lane climb and it was here that Arny informed the group he wasn't feeling well.

As Arny made the right turn for Otley, the group quickly decided to make sure he was OK and chased him down to accompany him back to York. Despite not feeling well, Arny soldiered on and we maintained a good pace retracing our steps to Kirkby Overblow, Sicklinghall and Wetherby, where we took the route back through Bickerton, Long Marston etc.

Before I forget, we had myself, JonG, Rich, Graham, Nigel, KevN, James, JohnG, Ben, Pete, Ian, Arny, Nick and Mark out on the ride. Thanks for another memorable day out, guys!

Certainly glad to hear your feeling better Arnie. Hope to see you again shortly. Maybe the hill climb Sunday, I was hoping to make it this year. I might even attempt a club ride on Saturday and Sunday.

Nice run out to otley on Saturday. Good company as usual perhaps abit big a group to start with but we stayed together well all the way round. :D

There was talk on the ride perhaps about a trip around cockayne next Saturday for the inters unless anyone one else as any ideas :D

Sunday ride for me. The first since about March. Seven in the square in various states of dress from the optimistic shorts and short sleeves to me with Thermal legwarmers and gloves. Filey was the destination. I must have been there before on a clubrun but I cannot recall when? It wasnt actually very warm and was quite misty for much of the ride out . It was very much like a Brid ride just turning off before Burton Fleming. Cafe was like a green house with a grape vine in it but it was cheap as chips and I had change out of a fiver so that was a good result! Slightly warmer after lunch so the legwarmers came off. There wasnt a see view from the cafe or even from the seafront for that matter as the mist was still rolling in but once away from the coast the sun came out and the temperature picked up. Kilham, Sledmere, Thixendale on the home run. I had 100 miles on the clock give or take about 1metre - so longest ride of the year for me. Thanks for the company guys.
I feel almost privileged to have watched all the worlds events this week which Eurosport manfully did there best to cover despite some iffy picture quality. Culmination of all this was the womens road race on Saturday and mens on Sunday. Lizzie Armitstead won brilliantly for Yorkshire in the womens and Peter Sagan did an even better job in the mens - now that is how to win a race! I'm only saying this because I think the coverage on the main channels has been sh1t. A womens world champion should make more than the last story on the local news. I doubt rugby has the participation that cycling has now?

"...or even from the seafront for that matter as the mist was still rolling in..."

I suspect Filey seafront is permanently shrouded in fret, rather like a landlocked Marie Celeste. I recall taking Hannah there when she was about four; she was determined to bury her feet on the beach, and the fact that she could barely see them even before burial wasn't going to stop her. We could tell there were donkeys walking the beach because we could hear them - but we never saw them!
