Weekend roundup 11-12 July

Post by MikeR »

Six out for the 08:45 to Ripon: Simon, Pete, Tim, Damian, John and self. With regulars from the training ride we were promised a tidy pace out to Ripon and back.

The wind didn't seem to bother us too much on the outward leg with some very neat changes and everyone sharing the duties on the front. After the turn at Ripon we passed the masses assembling for the Ripon Triathlon and picked up the wind which amplified our efforts back through Boroughbridge and Linton.

Some epic turns from Simon after we went through Aldwark Bridge sitting comfortably at 30mph with me desperately trying to hang onto his wheel.

Great ride all - really enjoyed it after the last few weeks of illness followed by injury.

13 out on the inters ride on Saturday. Tony g and Dave c had early baths which left myself, graham, Kevin, John b, Ian, rich, rob, joe, Ben, Nigel, and Neil . We headed out via helperby to masham and over Jordan's moss to how stean gorge. Sat out in the sun at the cafe knowing we had a tailwind home through pateley bridge, knaresborough and tockwith. Ben was out with the inters for the first time and rode strongly. One drama on the ride which was a nasty crash involving rich and Ian coming into pateley bridge. Ian took the brunt going ar*e over t*t into the verge thankfully. Hope your feeling ok :) . Rich stayed upright but collide with kerb and shredded the front tire. Someone one was on hand with a tire boot to get him home but only just  . We decide to take the direct route home with just shy of 90 miles on the clock from York. I would say 11 is about the max size of the group to manage on the road without splitting into 2 groups but it depends on whose out and ability range with can be determined on the day . Thankfully we had a lot of regulars out.
Also thanks to John b for helping with route decisions :D

Sadly won't be out on Saturday as I have a prior commitment but should be out the following week but I guess most will be doing the 3 bridges route :)

Further Higher Pasta Challenge Ride.

Fabulous day and the breeze even had the decency to remain largely across our bow. Just the three of us, Steen, IanH and me and we didn't shy away from the hills. Crayke, Coxwold, White Horse Bank, Reivaulx, Hawnby, Osmotherly, Swainby, Hutton Rugby, Stokesley. We'd barely had a foot down, or more than a bike length between us all morning and we sat in the Bistro by 1220.

Carlton Bank was the stiffest climb of the day, in the full sun and sheltered from the breeze it was hard toil. From there things got steadily easier over Newgate Bank, Ampleforth, Yearsley and home. 172k door to door, 2500m of climb and a couple of very satisfying challenge points...

For one reason or another I'm not out now for a few weeks. Worth posting on here if you can commit to a Sunday ride.

Legs shredded - everyone else better than me. Must get fitter......
