TT Spoco Event - 28th May - Event off?

Post by paulM »

I earned myself a day off today so did a quick lap of the Malton / Terrington circuit. From Terrington Bank to Sheiff there are advance warning signs out for next weeks road race "expect delays on the 28th" etc. This means next weeks evening road race league event must also be on the Bulmer / Ganthorpe circuit same day and time as the Spoco event. Sorry people but this just aint gonna work. I just dont understand how this can happen - I dont even think we are the only club to use Sheriff for TTs - looked like there was an event on the Whenby circuit when I went past on Tuesday? I dont actually think there is a quick fix for this - as the road race is pre entry and not a Clifton event does this mean the TT will have to be cancelled - I dont think it is possible to switch TT courses at short notice due to police notification?

Paul, the NYERR event is on the Sheriff Stillington circuit according to their website.

Hi

There has been a bit of confusion about this. I've been told Bulmer and Sheriff/Stillington.

I've just double checked on the spreadsheet sent round by Rich Houghton at Traffic Management and 28/5/2015 is listed as Bulmer so I think Paul's right.

Confirmation - the Road Race is definitely using the Bulmer circuit.

Not being an expert in the regulatory issues around these things, what is involved in moving the Spoco to another 'approved' circuit. Could the TT be held on the flat 10 route thus avoiding Bulmer etc? Perhaps a phone call to the Police notification person would be acceptable given that it is an pre-existing approved, risk assessed route?

This is indeed problematic. I don't know who would have primacy but I suspect the road race as we are 'club only'. It's unfortunate and raises issues regarding coordination which I will pick up. The risk assessment with a road race going at at the same time would not stand up to scrutiny. Whatever the 'ins and outs' we are where we are. Given that we must give 28 days notice to police and CTT we are out of time to put the event on a different course on the same night.

May I suggest two options,
1. We tag an additinal event on at the end of the series which would take place on Thursday 6 August or,
2 Run one on the 2 July which is currently a non event week.

Either way I have time to submit the statutory notices. Let me know which option is the most preferable and I will arrange accordingly.

Kind regards David :?

Do you mean Wednesday? York Tri did an event on there on that day.

Could you run an email poll of those who participated in yesterdays event (as representative of this year's cohort) and choose most popular option? You'll need to decide over the next few days to submit by 4th June to go with 2nd July. Purely personally I'd fill in the 'gap in the middle' on the 2nd - it's in term time so less likely that people will be on family duties or holiday then, me included :D

Good spot by Paul by the way.

That would have been a disaster. I was under the impression that the race was on the Stillington circuit as, I think ,were most others.

Indeed, the problem is that the route as per their web site shows the Stillington circuit in which case both events could have been accomodated without conflict. However, if it is the Bulmer circuit its a non starter. Can you imagine!! Dr Dave's suggestion is, I think a good way forward. As soon as the list of competitors and results is put up I will e mail everyone to get a consensus on the preferred option. I too favour the July date. Time will be tight but as the Deputy Chief Constable is my neighbour and a former colleague and all round good egg. I can just hand the statutory notification over persoanlly. :D

Kind regards David
