Opportunity for ride out with Marcel Kittel & Giant Alpecin

Post by DavidShort »

In case anyone hasn't picked up yet on social media, Marcel Kittel and the Giant Alpecin pro team will be at Bob Trotters, sorry, Giant York in Lord Mayors Walk at 11.30am Thursday 30th and will set off on a police escorted 20 mile ride. Anyone can turn up. It would be good to see a few Clifton jerseys in the mix. There will be plenty of media interest= Clifton CC promotional opportunities. I am at the womens cycling conference all day but may have to excuse myself for a couple of hours ;-) See you there?

I was there and sorry to those that missed it, but it was really good. Clearly the squad were just on tick over at the head of the peloton but it would have been brisk for a club run with the pace rarely dropping below 21 and often at plus 25mph - I can't imagine what they'd be like on full gas or how rapid it must feel in a proper pro race.

It was the efficiency of them that got me though - none of that pedal a bit, freewheel a bit, pedal a bit again that you often get when amateurs ride in a group. Also it was roads I know very well and I hadn't realised I ease up on some of the bends - they didn't and if you didn't pedal even though it felt dodgy to me to do so, a gap would open.

That's a tick on he bucket list for me - ride with a pro team.
