Weekend Roundup 6/7th

Cold and damp in The Square this morning and the Saturday part timers ( ) looked like they thought they'd made a mistake switching to Sunday.

There were 9 of us wanting a full day ride. Emmanuel bust a spoke at Snowball and headed back. That left Muzzy, Steen, Andy, Jonathon, IanH, Cooky, Broomy (loads of quality there) and self to tackle a route rarely traveled around the Wolds south of Driffield. Very quiet lanes, big skies, sun, wind and steadily dropping temperatures saw us reach Gilberdyke Garden Centre after 55 miles. The place has been taken over and the cafe is now huge. The food hit the spot though and we tackled the Broomy influenced route up through Faggathorpe back to Sutton on Derwent and home. Lots of lanes new to me. :D

My legs are buzzing now as I type this - sign of a great day.

Sunday Rider' Xmas Dinner Ride next week - Scarborough - 105 miles. All welcome. Will finish in the dark - bring good lights!

Glad to hear your legs were buzzing also.

Good ride though, cheers.

Thanks for the ride chaps - if I'd written down a description of my ideal winter club run, Sunday's ride would have pretty much matched it, and who'd have thought a Turkey and Cranberry baguette was the perfect cycling energy food.

Rob is factually incorrect as I too had an early bath on Sunday - having had the rarest of rare opportunities - a chance to ride with the club on two consecutive days. I had the privilage of riding with the Go Ride juniors on a road ride on Saturday morning - I cannot ever remember even back in the day when the average age of the group was somewhere to the left of 30. About 7 juniors and about as many older heads and we had a great ride - I'll have it up there with one of my best rides of the year helped of course by a superb crisp morning and good route out to Thixendale and back. Knowing I was going to be out the following morning aswell, happy to stay in the wheels. Everyone put in a shift and it was good to see the ability and discipline in the group. Pretty tired by the time I got home. Sunday was a bit wet and wild early doors but brightened up a bit later although the roads were really wet and muddy. I even had to clean my bike. This group had an average age somewhere to the right of 50 which of course means nothing. Another strong group and when they swung off after Huggate I carried on down to Wetwang, a left and right to Fimber and Thixendale again and then picked up the same route home as the previous dayfrom Kirby Underdale. The doors were just about falling off by the time I was home - a pretty tough headwind all the way back. So same roads but two very different rides.
