What's the best cleaning solution for getting those hard to get to areas on brakes, gears etc. Is there a magic formula. Its the black greasy stuff I am trying to get off.

Re: Best Cleaning "stuff"
Hi there, degreaser wise I have tried Muc off degreaser which is very good. Also gt85 and wd40 seem to clear the black greasy build up from the chain and cassette. Usually takes 2 or 3 goes to get it good but it always comes up looking shiny and new. Toothbrushes help to clean the cassette and I use half a sponge as a chain cleaner.
Hope this helps abit.

You can buy "engine degreaser" from MotorWorld (other stores/chains are available). 5 litres for about a tenner. You don't need much so will last yonks. Spray it on and/or use one of those chain cleaner twirly things. You still need a bit of friction from a toothbrush or similar though like Tim says.... though its a bit more potent than Muck-Off. Am always careful to keep this stuff away from wheel bearings etc through - would guess this will penetrate the seals. But I suspect WD40 would as well.
Good luck!

You might be better with something like this: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_228374 to clean the freewheel and with a chain cleaning device for the chain. It's good at removing oil but keep away from bearings as it strips the grease.
