A grand contingent of riders in the Square on Saturday, most with expectations of a nice frolic in good weather. 19 put their hand up for an Inters A ride. Driffield was pre-advertised, although a last minute change of plan to Cockayne was also mooted. Too late though, big crowds were already gathering behind the barriers in Driffield for the final sprint to the café.

It was obvious 19 was going to be too big to manage on the road so when an adjustment was called for (mechanical, not psychological) just outside of York, we took the opportunity to split. Easier said than done though – everyone stared at each other with The Clash ringing in their heads - “Should I stay or should I go”. In the end, the front 9 parked on the roadside were simply given the official ‘off you go’ signal. The 10 remaining in the back half headed to Driffield via North Grimston and Settrington Bank while the first group of 9 travelled via Duggleby. All seemed to go well because both groups made it safely to the same café in Driffield. The two groups then set off separately again for the trip home via Tibthorpe and Millington pastures.

It was a very nice day out, with the sun shining in the afternoon and very little breeze all day. It still felt a bit odd though, as many people, including me, are still searching the fitness cupboard for their best legs. Nevertheless, all appear to be making steady progress as Spring challenges emerge on the horizon. Thanks to everyone for a nice day out, we’ll keep our fingers crossed for more great weather like yesterday.

Great weather & company, the miles passed by quickly.
It was the first saturday for many weeks with no wind, which made things a lot easyier.

Excellent 'A' ride as described above. I spent most of the day struggling at the rear but as I made it to the end I see that as a moral victory. Mostly dry and sunny but when we returned towards York we found out that it had rained....and we'd missed it.

Many thanks to those riders who brought out their mudguardless summer bikes for the first run in meteorlogical spring, and for taking their turn on the front during the run into York. My mud splattered face and kit are evidence of your handy work.

Dalby Dilly-Dally
Fairly tough ride today. Damp conditions, heavy roads and rising headwind return. Very quiet though and some of the most scenic roads in Yorkshire.

8 in The Square. Gill greeted us with the news that she was only riding with us a short while. And kept repeating this in case we forgot. Hopefully you'll tag along a bit further next week? Good to see MarkD out again - climbing well. PeteH still has no slipstream. Ian back out with us for the first time since all his epics last summer. Steen and Andy as reliable as ever. RichardD towed us for miles (thanks) and spread various bits of his bike along the way

Thanks to one and all for the company. Must have been about 90miles.

Yes, apologies. Need to apply more TLC to the winter bike. Things didn't start too well with shifting problems in the square, followed (in no particular order) by a puncture, left crank arm coming loose and bit of superglued rear mudguard dropping off. Thanks to Ian for noticing the later and picking up my litter. Always enjoy those roads. The company and the all day breakfast were great.
