Weekend Roundup 22/23 Feb

Kiplingcotes Canter for me. It was a breezy day on Sunday and a difficult day for a clubride. Lugster does much self depreciation on the other thread, but in reality he battled well on a tough day. The blustery wind made it technically difficult to ride on a wheel, and the wind noise made communication challenging at times.

I always enjoy this route over the southern Wolds, long rolling hills and a big sky. Familiar faces and new recruit, Ed, who is evidently a talented rider. Quiet roads that had actually dried out. Shame I couldn't stop in Millington café and had to push on for home - not had their bacon and black pudding salad for a while - you should try it!

Bumped in to Ted Hughes and a few others coming back in through the lanes. Rode a few rides and races with Ted in the Clifton a while back, though not seen him for a couple of years. Its funny how you recognise a rider from silhouette/style long before you see their face....

It will be March next weekend, so time to just lengthen the Sunday ride a touch - nothing too epic mind. Something around the eastern end of the Moors. Watch this space.

Did the A ride on Saturday along with about 20 others, largest turn out I've ever seen on an A ride. 1st time out for a while due to flu. It was a great ride to Helmsley via Brandsby, Ampleforth, White Horse Bank, Hawnby. Back via Nunnington, Snargate, Farlington. A great day with good company.

Cheers Dave

A ride for me also. There were 15 to be exact. A few regulars plus a few new faces for me. Pretty standard route as described by Dave. You never really get bored of that view from the road down to Hawnby though. The stop was at Helmsley as the café at Hawnby may have been too small. for a big group.. a couple of customary p*****es enroute but no drama. In fact it helped the group split before the cafe :) a bit of a slog in the returning head wind, not that I was ever in it  .but a good group ride nonetheless . Door to door for me 106 miles at 15.5 av..

PS
Did any one happen to see a rear light fly of my bike en route any where, probably whilst flying down a bumpy descent. because when I needed it on my way home it wasn't there. Not that it will be in one piece anymore :D
