Hi everyone,
I am looking for a entry level bike computer & sat nav unit that I can plan and also down load cycle routs for my rides, but not something too complicated or expensive as I can’t afford much at the moment. I would be most grateful for your input, help, advice and recommendations on a unit that fits my requirements and will guide me from A to B without getting lost.

Regards
Mark.

Mark,

Depends how much money you have really.

Your cheapest solution to start with would be to get a cheap computer and then pop into a shop and buy a road Atlas and plastic A4 wallet. Tear the relevant page out, seal it in the wallet and carry it with you. You'll get to know the local area much better with a map than a gps and spend more time riding than fiddling with the device. Cost <£20.

Alternatively look out for a cheap second hand gps, you don't need the latest. As an example http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Garmin-Edge-7 ... 2c7ca1f5b7 The Garmin devices really are easy to use. Be careful though as not all the Edge devices do navigation.

I would endorse Paul's suggestion of a Garmin 705 from ebay. Assuming it is road cycling you want it for, the City Navigator is the mapping version to get. 2nd hand these are a bargain as they have similar core functionality to the latest 810 but without novelty add-ons.

You could always talk to one of your local bike shops. You could pick up a Garmin 200 for £100

I have a garmin edge 200. It is perfect for what I needed. I basically wanted a bike computer but without the sensor etc that always get knocked about and stop working! It records rides so you can download them to garmin connect or strava and it shows where you have been on a map with distance, speed, ascent etc. You get two mounts so I can clip it on to either my winter or summer bike easily. The only thing it doesn't do is mapped sat nav but you pay a lot more for those devices.
Hope this helps abit.
Tim
