Hi all,

I am currently investigating purchasing a time trial bike. I was involved last year in a numebr of time trials as well as some of the Thursday night events and feel its something I want to pursue.

As I am a novice at this, I am looking at any advice as far as bikes and things I should be watching out for, as far as what it should have and what should be avoided. I have looked at the Planet X time trial bikes, which appear to be good value for money and good reviews.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dont know a great deal about TT's but those that do seem to want to spend big on wheels and get a bike fit done with Sam or Fraz @ Cycleworks, as position on your chosen bike is more important than the bike itself!!!

Absolutely when I decide on a bike, a fit will be a definite.

It's further complicated by the fact that the UCI are set to change their rules on rider position this year (the rule about the saddle being 50mm behind the BB is going to be liberalised to 0mm). I presume (though don't know) that CTT will follow suit shortly afterwards.

Gill Crane's got a Planet X Exocet, you could try asking her or Tullio about how she's got on with it.

I'm getting a Scala secondhand. I've already got some decent wheels so those are going on it ... until the hypothetical point in the future where I decide I need a disc!

Ribble, Dolan and PX seem to be the main dealers of net-order TT bikes in this country and all do some good deals. On the other hand, if you're unsure about fit, paying the dosh to get a bike off a decent bricks & mortar shop means they can advise you on fit into the bargain.
