My first A ride since my accident in June, we left the square with about a dozen of us can't remember all the names but there was Dave C, Myself, Stuart, Graham, John B, John G, Finlay and Jenny, sorry for not naming the others but someone else may put this right.

Heading for Rosedale out through Strensall, Castle Howard, Slingsby, as far as Gillamoor where I decided to head for Hutton le Hole as I was having problems each time I climbed in a low gear the chain kept slipping off the small chainring pity as I felt quite good but did not want to hold the group up any more.

Dave C rode with me to the café at Hutton le Hole and before setting off again examined my bike more closely to find I had a broken chain link so removed that and it was fine then so we added a bit of mileage on by heading back via Malton and Kirkham Abbey where we encountered the dirtiest tarmac road we have ever rode on it was about 2 to 3 inches deep in wet mud and gravel just between Crambe and the railway crossing, one to avoid for a while I think.

Hopefully next time I will manage the whole planned route.

Sunday Clubrun for me. It was a good-to-be-alive sort of morning. Bright, fresh, colourful. 9 riders in The Square (who were also bright, fresh and colourful) - numbers picking up again after some late summer disruption with all the other events taking place.

Headed north through Castle Howard and on to Helmesley. Refuel in the Bakery Cafe. Several groups were not far behind us including quite a crowd from York CTC - made for a friendly "cyclist cafe" atmosphere.

Home via Reilvaulx, Scrawton, White Horse Bank, Ampleforth and Yearsley. A bit of care needed on descents on the slippery leaves. Great conditions though - bare arms and no gloves in late October, unheard of.

Back in York at 2-15 with 70 miles covered. Thanks for the company.

I'm not out next week, but Steen is planning a route around Northallerton - he knows these lanes well - will be good. See you all the week after.

I think the names you are missing Ian are Dave W, Kevin, and Sue. Sue was on a early one and turned for home at the top of Blakey bank. As for me I bottled out on the climb of Blakey bank and opted for the drag up the ridge when the rest of the group climbed the bank. We'd arranged to meet at the cafe. I arrived at rose dale convinced everybody would already be there so was surprised when no bikes were round the back. Waited for a few minutes before going in to see if anyone arrived. 10 minutes passed before anyone showed. Thought I might be in for lonely ride home . At least we answered one question which was which is longer route from gillimoor to rosedale. Came to the conclusion that it was probably the route I took but because you average a better speed overall it explains why I arrived at the cafe first.

As for the ride though good route however the roads were filthy at times and the weather was hit and miss. Squally rain and brisk winds especially on the tops of the moors. I think it was probably a tie between Fin and stu for the points jersey in the village sign sprints . Or is that me being diplomatic

For the first time though finished in the dark after a long ride. Hope to see all next week
