Thought I'd share this incoming mail with you all....

"A couple of weeks ago I spent a challenging, but enjoyable day on the Tan Hill Audax organised by Steven Roebuck with the backing of the Clifton CC. There was a good turnout from the club and I think a few of them were surprised to arrive at the start and find me curled up outside the door in my fleece sleeping bag liner, having ridden overnight from The Lakes. Everybody had a friendly word to say and although I could not ride at their pace for long periods, I did bump into the bulk of the Clifton riders at various points along the course.

After a bit of a rest and feed at the end I set off for home again, but due to tiredness was going pretty slowly. However, I did negotiate the hills (and rather bleak sections) successfully and finally had an hour of sleep before dawn on a bench in Ingleton. I was back in the Lakes around sunrise a couple of hours inside the time limit for a 500k audax.

I grumbled to a few people about struggling on my commuting bike as my good one was 'at the menders'. I've got that back again now and will enjoy riding it around the Northern Dales audax out of Arnside this weekend. As it is only 30k from home, the ride to the event will be a bit less of a challenge! Hopefully the wind will not be too harsh as this one goes up Tan Hill from the Leyburn end.
