Bike Box

Hi Guys - Arguably one for the 'wanted / for sale' forum but I thought I'd try my luck on the general discussion forum.

I am following the Tour de France next week (Saturday 13th to Sat 20th) and plan to do Alps d'Huez, some general riding and one other mountain (as yet undecided). I'm going with a friend who assured me that he could obtain a bike box however this hasn't happened and we are less than one week away from getting on a plane with our bikes, one in a box and one not - crunch!

I would be incredibly grateful if anyone could loan me a bike box from Friday the 12th until Sunday the 21st of July.

I will let me friend use my bike box and I will use the loan bike box and assume full responsibility for it. My carbon Cannondale (Cassie) is my pride and joy so I can assure you that the box will be treated with the upmost care and respect.

Failing that can anyone suggest if there is a shop which loans boxes - e.g. Cycleworks??

Many thanks

Dave Ward.

Cycleworks loan them out as Dave C used one on our recent trip to France.

If no success you are welcome to use my bike bag it protects the bike well as the frame bolts to the metal frame using the wheel quick releases and the wheels go into two padded wheel bags, it also has strong casters to wheel it along on.

Hi Ian - Apologies for the late reply and thank you so much for your kind offer but we have managed to source a bike box through a 'friend-of-a-friend'.

Again, thank you for your kind offer and speedy response to my post yesterday!

All the best,

Dave Ward.

It's probably a bit late now but if you have any problems with a box give me a shout - I run the York hub of bikeboxonline,co.uk and v happy to give Clifton members a good discount :D . We use Bikebox Alans and Polaris Pod Pros which, for me, are the best boxes on the market.

It's personal preference but I would avoid a bag especially if you've got a carbon frame - some of our best customers, including a couple of pro triathletes, came to us after bad bike bag experiences!

These guys have a hub in York: http://www.bikebox-online.co.uk/

£45 for the week is pretty reasonable as these are the hard boxes rather than padded bags.

I think they deliver too.
