For anyone who doesn't know, York and Lancaster unis have an inter-varsity sports contest every year: Roses. This year it's at York, so we get first use of the new track, it's going to be exciting! The main event is at [Edit: 11am] on Saturday, it's a 10 mile TT round the track and there should be riders out for most of the next couple of hours. If you're interested in what this new facility actually looks like in practise, drop by and watch! There will be various non-counting fun races afterwards so you can have a gander even if you can't make it for 11.

... and here are the timings from our esteemed president
There will be warm up on the track before first riders start (from 10am) but once riders start (11am) we will use bottom lakeside campus road which is quiet and just used by buses which will be less often on a Saturday.

We will be doing held starts because there is likely to be 30 riders starting and track is only 1.02km we have decided max 6 riders on the track at a time or things may bunch up etc. So we will start 6 riders off at 30 second intervals then when they all come off start next 6. This sounds complicated but when we tried it, it was the best option.

Therefore we will give people a rough time when they are starting e.g first 6; 11am, second 6; 11.30m third 6; 12pm...... with the aim to set the 6 fastest riders off at 1pm and be done for half 1!

We will do 16 laps which is just over 10 miles saves marking it out exactly.

...

Once the TT is over we need to pack up and make our way over to the other campus for the MTB race (five mins ride). Because the MTB course uses some footpaths, we have to set it up on the day so we will try do that ASAP. The mountain bike race will be 10 laps although anyone who gets lapped will do one less, this will roughly take 40 minutes.

Here are some photos from our 10 mile TT (that's 16 laps) on the new track. The track itself is excellent and should prove an invaluable resource when it's opened properly, so thanks to everyone who's made it happen :) The hairpin was good fun but apart from that, I could pedal through all the corners when on my own - it'd be different in a bunch of course.

Oh, the results you say? We nicely trounced Lancaster, as you can see.
