Just a month to go now to the first race in the NYERRL series on 16th May 2013 and we have 49 entries.

I still need 3 volunteers to support the traffic management team and 4 drivers; the drivers need to be BC members.

Please let me know if you, or anyone you know, is able to provide support.

Good morning all, I now have 4 drivers and 4 volunteer marhals.

I also have Fraz to help out with signing-on duties.

Two more pairs of hands would be great to support signing on and finish line duties.

Put me down for something! Just back from a week of torrential rain in Spain with not much riding :(
Had planned to enter this race on my return but I'm too late so happy to help out...

I now have all of the volunteers I need; thank you to those of you who have put your names forward.

If there is anyone else with some free time on their hands on the evening of Thursday 16th May, please come along. I may need extra help figuring out the placings in the inevitable sprint finish!

Have you assigned reserves for the race? Is there any chance of Entry on the Line? Seeing as this is the only 4th Cat road race in Yorkshire this year AFAIK it would be a shame not to try to race it. Also, I should be getting shiny new wheels just a week before.

(I've realised I have a problem with this series - the only two races I want to ride are the two being organised by Clifton. Can I claim transfer of good karma if I help out elsewhere and on the Sunday race in June?)

Hello there, we have a limit of 60 riders and currently all places are taken. I have no reserves.

There is the chance of course that someone doesn't turn up on the evening and in that case we could fill their place with an entry on the line.

If anyone does drop out before next Thursday then I will let you know if you pm me your email address.

Just a quick posting to say well done to Gavin for getting last night's event to happen - commissaire Julie Rodman's comments were along the lines that she's like every race organised like that, please. Full marks too to all from the club who rode it - the weather right up to the pre-race briefing looked appalling and we were incredibly lucky that we got a fine, bright if chilly evening.

Here is Julie Rodman's race report:

Bishopswood course near Wistow was the venue for this evening's first event for fourth category riders. An hour before the start the riders had driven through driving rain and poor visibility to the headquarters, but luckily the rain stayed off for the duration of the race.

Gavin the organiser did a superb job with excellent rallying around of the helpers and perfect coordination on the night. They made it as safe as possible for the riders to enjoy the course.

A lot of the riders were learning road racing and tactics along the way. It was a mixture of experienced and novice riders on the road and a few hairy moments occurred particularly when a lorry jack-knifed around one of the bends out of the wood.

Daniel Ladle BBM Revolution who was to soon relinquish his fourth cat status, had quite a few moves off the front, however no one would go with him to break away.
So it was left to a sprint finish with all the riders heading to the line, Jacob Brown from the organising club Clifton CC taking the win from Dan Ladle second and Zach Smith, Selby CC in third place.

It was good to see the lady in the race Helen Tickner Crosstrax finishing the course.

Results

1. Jacob Brown Clifton CC
2. Daniel Ladle BBM Revolution
3. Zach Smith Selby CC
4. Mark Jenkins Rock Racing Team
5. Tom Davison Wakefield CC
6. Stuart Davis Selby CC
7. George Evans Airedale Olympic
8. Anthony Lazarus Clifton CC
9. Jamie Tweedell Albarosa CC
10. Graham Morgan We Love mountains RT

I punctured on lap 3 then got reprimanded from Commissaire later on - for moving to right of road rather than left - when I got the flat. So not a great evening for me. Well done to Jacob for winning and Anthony for making top 10. From what I could see there were also strong rides from Richard, Andy and Tim who all made big efforts to try and get away on several occassions.

Thanks to Gavin for putting this on....a great job :D

From my, excellently traffic managed, viewing post it looked like a strong performance from Clifton.

Tim seemed to be at the front for the majority of the race and I could see Anthony and RichD right up there too.

I struggled to pick anyone else out (AndyM was disguised as a Privateer) but obviously Jacob must have been up at the sharp end! Well done.

Cheers

I'm claiming the Laterne Rouge bragging rights on this one! I probably could have avoided it if I hadn't gotten confused about the number of laps remaining and sped up at the start of '2 to go'.

Tough luck Cam - looks like you'll have to sit at number 1 in Yorkshire Region 4th's for another week or two! I don't know if it was just because we were going round and seeing people again and again, but it looked like 8-10 people wheeling broken bikes around. Perhaps a broom wagon is needed?!

4th cat racing is strange, no one ever seems to get a gap of more than a bike length, everything gets closed down....next time will someone just batter the bunch to bits and give us a chance to sort the finish order out please.
