Just thought I would let you know as many Clifton riders have been out on the chaingang over the months/years.
Changes are coming.
This week (Tues 09/04 and Thur 11/04) no change.
Tuesday 16th as normal, Cycleworks at 1800 for the Flaxton/Sheriff/Crayke/ Easingwold ride. (or shortened until fully light)
Thursday 18th New meeting point outside York RUFC (Clifton Park) on Shipton Road, A19.
The route will be (or a near variation) on Overton, Shipton, Newton-o-O, Linton-o-O, Aldwark Bridge, Great Ouseburn, Marton-cum-Grafton, A168, Washford, Cattal, Tockwith, Long Marston, Rufforth or Angram/Askam Rich/Bryan.
Tues day will change in due course to remove the dangerous crossing of the A64 at Flaxton. Probably a meeting point around Huntington/Monks Cross.
As the weeks go on we plan to implement two groups, 1755 & 1800. No one is forced to ride either group but a bit of honesty of ones ability should see this work nicely. Certainly my feeling is it gives the first group incentive to not get caught by the second group.
Final point.
Regardless of the thread title - its a York chaingang and everyone is welcome to come along.
More soon, Chris

I like the new route Chris, the right side of York for me. It can't be more than 30 miles though... You'll be back in York before 1930.

Really pleased to read this. Crossing the A64 had to stop. Thanks Chris.

I absolutely agree with this and Will's post... The crossing the A64 should stop, it puts me off going. New routes are a great idea.

Just a couple of observations from me: It may be safer to meet outside the ring-road, possibly the small layby 100m outside the RR roundabout as the A19 from the rugby club to the RR will be very busy at 18.00 for two abreast riding. Also could go straight up to Helperby and across to Borobridge far better line-out roads giving slightly longer route. Could even get onto A168 one roundabout up from Borobridge as more of A168 the better.#lowtrafficwideroad

Just a thought Chris but what about meeting in your usual place in Nestle bus shelter and heading up into Haxby, left at Nigels shop and through the estate and into Wigginton, cross the Helmsley road at the lights and left and right in Shipton. That way you avoid crossing the ring road on the A19 and having to go up the Overton road which is crap in a big group. Meet outside Nestle and you might even see me!

If it's a quiet ride out of town you want then just meet off the ring road at Askham Bryan, and do the route the other way round, finish at Shipton and tickle the pedals round Overton at the end.... There won't be a big group going down the A19 at the end.

Yes Darren that would eliminate a group crossing the RR. Similarly, meeting at the same place Clifton meet on the Rufforth road (Cycleworks could do this route on Thursdays). The group could get on the A168 at Cowthorpe and line-out to Borobridge then accross to Helperby or come back down A168 'through and off' to Walshford and back over Cattal bridge.

Thanks for all your comments/ideas and sorry I'm so slow at replying - two young children/no time etc etc
I'll try and reply to you all in one hit.
This Thursday will as 'advertised' at York RUFC on Shipton Rd, it was selected as most people knew it - but the idea of meeting just outside the ring road will be adopted.
The shelter was considered but Haxby road is busy on a Sunday morning so was left for this reason.
The route (Darren) is 41 miles, its further than I thought, having said that there lots of alternatives to lengthen/shorten as the route evolves.
Tuesday - This is also going to change (soon) in pole position is the 'old Malton route' leaving from Peter's bench on Stockton Lane.
That is, Stockton Lane, Stockton on Forest, Upper Helmsley, Buttercrambe, Whitewall Quarry, Malton, Coneysthorpe, Terrington, Sheriff, Srensall etc.
Again around 40 miles and a few lumps so both rides have something for everyone.

+1 for the old Malton, it's about time we had a painful route, everyone's gone soft.....I can't make Tuesdays

Tuesday looks to be Peter's bench for Malton route.
Thursday I really don't know.
Suffice to say I am no longer going to try & improve things, some are too dogmatic & I've not the time to invest in banging my head against a wall.
I'm not sure what to say re: meeting points & a route. Listen to the grape vibe I guess.
Thanks for your interest. Perhaps ring Cycleworks, but don't ask me.

Looks as though we're back to meeting at Cycleworks at 6 until further notice.
