With Steen's Blummin' Banks challenge ride next Sunday I was planning on heading west this week. It feels a long time since we went over Jordans....

That said, it looks like it might be a wintery weekend over that way, so we'll see how things look on Sunday morning and keep the roads to the east as a back-up option.

Either way, will be good to get out.

Its a bit parky out there, but I'll definitely be in The Square in the morning and "on the cog". Plan to head out to Masham. If the high ground looks OK we'll push on over Jordans to Pateley. If its a bit iffy, I'll finesse the route to keep us in the Vale.

Was going to join you, but looking at the weather I am going to go East in the morning on my trekking bike (which has better grip) and gives me more options in terms of clothing I can take. I am mainly after saddle time so the distance is not so important. Hopefully will be blown back later by the strength of the gales from the east.

Decided to play safe today and kept to roads that would have been gritted, so out via Elvington into the wind over to Thornton Woods and then Barmby & Pocklington - where the wind seemed to be the strongest - had difficulty staying upright in the side wind from Pock' to the turn off for Millington. It was a bit early for elevenses so rode onto the Springs - but then encountered ice so rode back to the village and arrived dead on eleven.
So a brief drink & tea cake as well as a chat with Heather's dad who had been out running on the Wolds Way with a mate who knew IaN H.
And then so Peter Hollyoak and his good lady - but they had been walking no bikes today - they sent their regards to everyone who would know them.
Then it was a fast 90 minute ride back home, with some wind assist.

My weekend seemed like it was going to be a bit of a let down.Sat was a no go on the roads so training ride off the agenda and a hour and half trying to imagaine a few hills on the turbo.Today seemed a better bet and luckily got a solid 3 hours round Terrington and Ganthorpe only getting rid of the headgale when turned up towards York on the Castle Howard road.As said the worst bit was the side winds as u know what u r up against with head/tail wind.A pretty steady effort but good to be out in not ideal conditions.ps saw rob and another rider on their way back through Crayke with what i think was a block head wind back to York.Hope it worked out ok
