Met Office forecast for Saturday is 2c (and "feels like -2c"), and Metcheck reckons there's high winds and rain/snow coming through on Friday. My inclination is to play safe and stick to the safe northern route for a second week, but I'm aware that others get a bit grumbly about "utilitarian" rides like this. What's the views?

Sounds sensible to me! I'm usually just concentrating on the wheel in front anyway so the lack of a decent view isn't really an issue.

Maybe we can avoid trying the break the 30mph barrier on the way back though

South and West are broadly still out.... sooooo much flooding still, mean roads are closed.

If I was out I would be happy with the North route again.

Northbound it is then I reckon. Not sure what to suggest about the 30mph problem though - maybe we need Darren out as a moderating influence among the fast lads...? Darrr-rennnnn?!?

I came down twice on the cyclepath to Selby (foolish choice of route in hindsight), so am happy to ride the less risky Northern route.

Martin - both Sharpy and I have been commuting up and down the A19 this week on the bikes and it's been fine. It's well gritted.

Cawood Bridge is open again, the roads round there are fine I've being riding round there today.

Bahhhh well, that wasn't exactly what I was hoping for, but I suppose it sort of reads as a plea for sanity, in whatever form you choose...

Westerly looks okay, road from Stillingfleet to York is muddy but passable with care.

Not sure on Southerly route but everything seems to suggest it is open again! Not sure on the gritting situation on these roads though!!

Sutton On Derwent, it was really bad there. It seems that the roads may be open but I have not had a chance to have a look yet....

Given the "warmer" temperatures we're currently experiencing I think most roads are back to normal, wet and the weather, wet and windy.

Since the overnight forecast is for around zero I'd rather not risk heading south on small, wet, roads. Let's head north; if it's not too bad then we can do the "usual" route, if it's worse than expected we've got the fall-back of the main roads route we rode last week. If anyone's really desperate for some variety then they can head off on the xmas lunch ride instead (and entertain their family and friends with the trapped wind which results from folding yerself in half after a three-course meal )
