Training ride, Saturday 3rd

Normal service resumes on Saturday with a 9am kick-off for a three hour training ride. We'll do the westerly route, which goes York, Appleton Roebuck, Tadcaster, Bramham, Thorner, Barwick, Aberford, Sherburn, Cawood, York - it's always best just to take a look at the map beforehand so that you can find your way if need be. Having said that we'll aim to keep it steady - bear in mind Darren's wise words that "the difference between a good training ride and a bad one can be a couple of miles an hour on the hills". The 2013 season is still a long way off. We'll split into two groups if the numbers are more than fifteen or so.

No daughters to stop me this week. I shall be jumping in the deep end and aiming to keep afloat. See you Saturday.

I'll be bringing my lardy bum along - now then lardy bum - brass monkeys last week, arctic this.

(Yes I know, before you tell me, it's not actually lardy bum - though perhaps the actual song title is just as apt for me too).

I hope to be there, lately being struggling to maintain 20mph on my own so I think I might get a kick in.

Will... ...why are you trying to maintain 20mph on your own in October...?

I figured it was not too late yet. Just a bit depressing finding it hard to maintain 20mph when about a month a go it was easy. I've had plenty of rest too, gained half a stone and 3% body fat but it's not enough alone to slow me down on the flat.

Cruising at 20mph is probably a recovery ride for Will!

I'm out tomorrow - looking forward to it. Haven't done anything longer than 30 odd miles for a while.

See you there

Martin

Tom posted on here ages back about inadvertantly catching Joel Wainman while out on a winter ride, and realising that even the very fast blokes take it steady in winter. For further evidence, take a look at Tejvan Pettinger's blog (my emphasis added):-

"My personal average speeds:-"
Commute into town, including stopping times at traffic lights – 12-16 km/h
Commute into town (slow) – 16-20 km/h
Commute into town (fast) – 20-28 km/h
Club run – 24-27 km/h – we used to average a pretty constant 24-27 km/h for long club rides in Yorkshire
Training ride on winter training bike – 24-27 km/h
Training ride in summer – 28 – 30 km/h

Threshold training ride 32-33 km/h
Threshold training ride on time trial bike 34-37 km/h
Hilly time trial on road bike – 38 km/h
Hilly time trial on Time Trial Bike – 40 km/h
Flat time trial TT bike, no traffic – 45-46 km/h
Fastest time trial on TT bike (fast course, + traffic)- 49km/h

So... ...steady tomorrow then, everyone.
