Training for the Training Ride, Sat 27th
Posted: Tue Oct 23, 2012 7:02 pm
Aiming to race next year but don't know your half-wheeling from your evens? Wondered what all that shouting in the bunch was about but afraid to ask? Say goodbye to ooops-brought-the-whole-bunch-down misery once and for all with the Saturday before the Saturday Training Ride Training Ride!
Okay folks... ...for those of you who are ready to move beyond the social rides and have seen enough toasted teacakes for 2012, the training rides will be kicking off on 3rd November. However, by popular demand (of the regulars who, it seems, don't want too much excitement on the first couple of rides) I said I'd do a ride this Saturday specifically for all who are either starting the training rides for the first time, or are un-confident in bunch riding or for whatever other reason feel the need to ease themselves into it gently.
We'll do the "southerly" of the training routes, which is pan flat and comprises a variety of types of road. We'll take it steady to ensure everyone sticks together and while (please God) it won't be a rolling lecture, we'll talk a bit along the way about etiquette, what makes a good winter training ride and what makes an appalling nightmare.
I'll get in before the usual suspects do and note that - winter being winter and s**t-covered roads being the norm, mudguards of some sort will save you a repeated tongue-lashing (and yes I've now got a blasted great "RaceBlade Long" with a flap the size of a shovel, before all the regulars start rolling their eyes). Other than that, as ever, watch the weather forecast and dress appropriately. I'd guess we're probably safe from snow this week but as we get into the bowels of winter, always check on here at the last minute to make sure rides are happening.
09:00 start outside the gallery - prompt please - and we'll be back by noon or very close to it.
