A reminder for your 1st Sunday in October - Clifton Club Hill Climb:

Sunday 7th October
Start: Bishop Wilton at 11am.
Entry: On the Line as for Club SPOCO Events.

The climb is the minor road which goes up from the village X-roads to join the A166. Finish just prior to the junction.

Max gradient 20%, distance 1.2 Km

There are several Club trophies up for grabs, including separate category for riding MTB, but mainly if you feel like having a go, having a blast, then come along....

Remember Junior is Under 18yrs and minimum age for CTT-organised events is 12yrs (with signed Parental Consent Forms).

Depart 09-30 from the Square for those riding out together or meet there (for safety & visibility, please do not park at the start or on the course - find a verge off the road of the hill climb - Ta)

Our Club Hill Climb is usually a small (but select!) field and so should be no issue for anyone to enter, but worth acknowledging the Event Entry etiquette:
1. Max number of riders we're allowed for CTT-organised Club Events is 40.
2. Clifton members priority sign on. This priority will last until 10-40am.
3. Any rider who is a member of a CTT Club is welcome to ride and at 10-40am entry opens to all, up to a max of 40
4. As this is a Clifton Club Event, the prizes will be for Clifton members only

Would do the hill climb but there's a challenge ride Audax that day.

I noticed Dave Cooks comment about the clash, so heres a suggestion for those who would normally do both ( and we need helpers too at the hill climb).
Lets do the audax route as a club run either this Saturday or the following Saturday, this would also help to reduce the pressure of numbers for Kevin.
What do people think?

I don't remember Bishop Wilton been quite so hilly but I am sure it's the same event, 20% ish!

For the benefit of new members and those who seem to have forgotten

1. Hill Climb is THE club event of year
2. All members should attend, preferably in club kit, either to ride or support
3. Anyone not riding should line route and "encourage" those who are
4. At the end we go for bun fight
5. And after that ride our bikes together

Basically i think this weekend all roads should lead to Bishop Wilton, with no other rides on the cards!

Well thats me committed, having said all that no way of getting out of riding now

More seriously i think in times of change with lots of new members and exciting avenues for cycling we should be proud of our traditional events and do things "properly".

It is also opportunity to get everyone in club together and great "end of season" marker. Even if season never got going or ended weeks ago can still get together to review and plan for next year. And mud pluggers can try to entice us into their ways.

Totally agree that roads are not suitable for large groups nowadays. Just need to use some common sense and split into smaller groups when necessary.

And if cafe busy chill out like last year.

The hill climb is part of the 'Ultimate All Rounder' trophy too.

The other part is the Dalby Time Trial on Sunday 21st October.

I'll be there with the aim of not finishing last!! Is there a secondary competition for the quickest down the front of Garrowby??

I was hoping to do this but with no transport this weekend and the prospect of riding via Selby toll bridge to get to York with the bridge at cawood closed it just means a longer ride than normal. I might consider just riding there directly from home

A reminder for the Hill Climb (full details at the top of this thread) this Sunday:
Clifton Member signing on 1020am-ish onwards… (open to all CTT Club riders at 1040am)
Start time at 1100am

Can I request please that we remember that we are not the only road users and that the friendly residents of Bishop Wilton should not be intimidated nor inconvenienced by our event.

The event has police permission/approval for go-ahead. Can we remain on the left hand side of the road or preferably on the grass verge before the start and at the finish. We need to respect the other road users and their visibility of the road and corners ahead.

And finally, can I ask all members, particularly our more experienced crew, to help me with sharing this message, as at times I can be busy signing people on and next minute I look up and riders are 3-4 across the road!! So, just some help guiding those who might forget in the excitement of the day please. Thankyou.

I am really pleased and grateful to the band of helpers who came volunteering to me well in advance and we have a full set for the event: Rob, my Dad, Steen, Malcolm and Bernard.

So your offer of help is appreciated and for 'crowd control' duties but anyone feel free to spectate or ride if you wish.......
