Hi all, just joined the club recently and look forward to meeting more of you soon. Ive been riding 2 1/2 years now and have had a bash at 2 road races in the last 4 weeks, hopefully off the pace in the 1 st and punctured on the 1 st lap of the 2nd last Thursday at Malton but thoroughly enjoying it and will continue. For the last 2 years i was a member of Selby, introduced by a work collegue who lives close by. I dont know if this has been broached before, and appreciate the great use of this forum but Facebook was used as a great asset for planning in their club and worked well. Please take the time to look at the sort of things that were planned and organised via this site, no effort, no management hardly and very accessible for most people these days.

just to put it in perspective i joined Selby 2 years ago and was the 12th member on the then small list, through the Facebook site and some very small publicity membership is now close to 60, a good percentage introduced via Facebook become full time club members.

My concern would be that once you create multiple sources of contact and information it makes it harder to organise/control. Members would need to check both places?

Something similar came up a few years back (certainly discussed by t'committee anyway) when a digest-type mailing list was suggested "since some people don't check websites" but was rejected because - as per Dr.Dave's comment - it would effectively open up a second front we'd all have to check.
I have to say the website's had a similar impact for Clifton to Facebook for Selby - back when I joined there were about fifty members, now three hundred. I think the work done to make the site, and this discussion board, robust and easy to use has paid off and we should keep everything on here - but that's just my view.

For what it's worth, I have to say that I think Twitter rather than Facebook would be a good option to complement the website- easy to update (whoever has the account just tweets updates), accessible to most people using smartphones these days and perfect if there's a sudden change of plans- all that's needed is one tweet letting followers know that a ride has been cancelled / changed etc and anyone who follows is automatically updated.
I'm a complete luddite and even I like Twitter (much more than FB)
If there's an appetite I would happily look after the Twitter updates.
Just a thought?
