Hello,
Wondering about entering this one: http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events ... -Road-Race
Whilst I could just about cycle out there, its a bit longer than I'd like for a warm up, and so I wondered if any other club members are driving and have space for a second bike and a passenger. Will gladly part with a tenner for petrol.
There's a week left to enter.

Life Hill Surface Condition
Just got back from a week away and received an e mail last week from the race organiser via the BC website about the poor condition of the rather ominously named Life Hill. The race is still going ahead but will be neutralised the first time down.
I think there are a few others entered for this and have presumably received the same e mail. Does anybody have any direct knowledge of the current road condition? or their experience of previous years (Paul M, Phil, Darren?). I may ride over there sometime in the next couple of weeks but if anybody else does so, I would appreciate their opinion. Given recent events at Bishopwood (hope all are well and on the mend by the way) I would not like to worry too much about everyone elses bike handling as well as my own on a fast pot holed descent. Thanks in advance for any information and hope to be out with the club in the next week or so.

The descent after Life Hill has "previous", and the condition of the road has deteriorated year on year despite hopes that someone might get out there with a b****y big tub of tarmac. It's a fast sweeping left-hander with potholes all over the place; Darren rode through there a week or two back and reckoned they'd grown over this winter's frosts. There was a spectacular pile-up there last year / year previous on which I suspect Tom can report details, and the last time I rode it someone went into the front of an oncoming car there and all bar the lead group got pulled out prior to the final lap. It's a shame because it's in many ways a good, if challenging, circuit. I suppose it's always possible to say "just be careful" but...
Plenty of experience thanks Richard - its the best circuit in the region a real slow burner!
I rode down it fast yesterday. Theres a hole at the top and one at the bottom of the hill - both on the inside but neither look that bad & so long as no one panics there wont be an issue - I dont know what the fuss is about - its a couple of pots on a big circuit - most circuits have some issue somewhere?

If Life Hill is the climb out of Wetwang on the road race circuit (which I guess it is) I rode up it and down the descent yesterday. The road was a bit of a mess on the descent with some of the potholes a good way across the road. Most seemed fairly shallow, although i'm not sure how shallow they'd seem if you dropped a carbon rim into one...
I rode it last week and pretty much agree with Paul. The only part that bothers me a bit is the rather wide crater on the upper part of the main descent; if everyone tries to ride round it at short notice there could be some fun. I'd give it a bit of leeway at the top so as not to get cut up by idiots, but other than that the circuit is alright.
Cheers,
Tom

With a slight sense of shock and disbelief, it looks like I've been accepted. I'll be riding out to the circuit next week, so if anyone could quickly detail exactly which roads it is, that would be a big help (can't find them anywhere on the net). Judging by my performance on Saturday, it looks like a bit of panic-training might be in order!
