For those with a smartphone or garmin, here's a new app that tracks your ride and compares you climbing times for each section of the ride.

Upload your activity data from your GPS unit (Garmin, iPhone or Android). Strava will automatically log and organize your data, giving you a complete overview of your training.

I'll probably leave the decision to the last possible moment but it's not looking like I will be doing this ride. The prospect of icy roads and some lying snow doesn't sound ideal. The temperature forecast for Sunday as slowly got lower all week and now strands at 1 C. I'm sure some of you may know better than me but I can't imagine that the minor roads will be clear ( could be wrong) . I'm sure the main roads will be ok but riding on these with nervous drivers isn't great either. Everyone who does ride have a safe one and I'm sure I'll live to regret my decision but I don't have the confidence in those conditions and don't want to put other at risk of accidents. :(

At the moment the ride will go ahead, although snow is forecast this afternoon, it is forecast to clear for Sunday morning temperatures -1 to 1 bright and clear.

Saturday
A dry start with a widespread frost. Cloud will increase later with outbreaks of snow spreading from the west.

Tonight
Snow will clear away this evening, then a widespread frost will form as skies clear.

Sunday
Dry, bright through the morning with a cold, frosty start. Cloud will increase later, but most places staying dry until dusk.

Its not looking good at the moment in Malton.
-2 deg. The clouds have rolled over and are looking heavy.
I had to cancel the long route for our reliability ride which was probably the best thing to do.
I guess thats the trouble of organising stuff so early - you cant stop Mother Nature.

Its at least a couple of centimetres thick now. Im afraid us Malton Wheelers wont be coming over.
We are talking out our knobly tyres for just a local ride around the bridleways.

Andy - I think you should consider cancelling tonight. This amount of snow isn't going to clear tonight and the forecast is for sub zero temperatures until mid morning and the wind is blowing it around every which way. Only the main roads may be cleared not the ones we would be using!
I think your only option would be to stay on the main roads - was thinking B road to Oswaldkirk/Stonegrave/Hov/Malton/Gally Gap but as the Buttercrambe Br. is shut even that isnt viable and changing the route might affect the event insurance?
At least if you cancel now everyone has a chance to make alternative plans.
Its a b****r but I regretted trying to run this event in snow a few years ago and it was nothing like this bad!

Sorry that the weather has forced the concellation, does anyone fancy getting out their MTB's and going out on the Selby cycle path and possibly onto the Trans Pennine from Selby down towards the Too Hoots cafe ?
( If this option proves a bit too much we could find a cafe in Selby).
If so we could meet at say 10.00 on the cycle path near teh Brunswick Nursery at Bishopthorpe - any one going to join me ?
