While the rest of you were Xmas shopping on Sunday just 5 of us assembled in the Square. Real winter clubrun this with a raw westerly wind. Muzzy, AndyG, Cooky, TimR and self headed north, keeping to the back lanes.

A first for me was a climb to the north of Ampleforth, parallel and just to the E of Wass Bank. Made a nice change and then we flew down the main road into Helmesley at a steady 70+kph. In the Cafe before 11, Cooky commented that the K ride would hardly be out of The Square at that time!

Discussing the presentation dinner, Cooky said that he's "sent his entry in the night before"

Onwards up the climb to Scawton, then White Horse Bank, hole in hedge Easingwold and home before 2pm with only 65 miles covered. Shortest ride in some time.

A bit more challenging next weekend with 100 miles lined up for you and Xmas dinner option at the coast. At the moment it doesn’t look like we’ll need to book, but will post if that changes. Should be a good winter adventure.

Another great ride on what was still a relatively benign day. Just hoping our luck holds for the next couple of weeks? A short ride but some tough climbs and a bit of care needed on some greasy roads. We were a bit shocked to find in the cafe that Rob was still planning a ride round Rievaulx which is a bit of a break with tradition. But no matter, the roads around Rievaulx are just some of the best in the area no matter what the weather. As said a great winters club ride but in a couple of months I'll be doing the same roads on three and a half / four hour training rides, although they'll play havoc with my average speed!

I got a flue on wednsday and I was supposed to do the Tan Hill Tour, but because of the conditions (snow on the top, flue) I had to cancel.
BUT, on saturday evening I was looking for a short alternative route IF I feel better in the morning, and on sunday morning there were no chance to stay in bed. My last free weekend.
So I travelled by car to Helmsley and did the Cockayne Round, going also to the Rosedale Chimney bank, trying it personally! It is REALLY steep, but I managed it. So that is also done, the climb upon the steepest road in the UK (at least one of them).
Back in Helmsley I had 63km and 1260 ascending meters, but in a very slow tempo because I didn´t want to overload my body, weakend through the flue. I don´t know, but I have could come also with you even though your speed was different than my this time, but it was a really nice ride for me in the Moors! I love the Area here!!! York is a so great city!!!
When I go back, I will follow your posts and think about the good time I have ben there...
