Favourite Energy Products

Hi Everyone,

We’re always trying to improve our charity sportives – The Macc Monster and upcoming PEAK 100 (Sunday 15th April).
In order to keep improving our sportives, we like to make sure the kit we give out to our participants is tailored to the event.
As you can imagine, one of the main things we give to our riders who come along on the day are energy powders and gels. However there’s a pretty big range to choose from!

We’ve had a lot of success with High 5’s products, but we have also used Science in Sport too, but we’re just trying to make sure we bring in the right stuff for our cyclists!
No one wants to try and climb up and over Axe Edge with a bad taste in water bottle!

Do you have a favourite energy product?
What do you think works best for you?

Thanks for your help!

I like the Zipvit energy bars, taste ok and seem to work. Not a great lover of gels. I find bananas take some beating though!

SIS Go juice - lemon & lime flavour but only 1 bottle - I'd take a bottle of water aswell on a long ride or race. Their gels aren't bad either as gels go although I think they are all like sweetened snot. As for solid food I never bother with energy bars - I'd just take cereal bars - those Geo bars are good and single twix fingers are the ultimate quick fix / get you home /convenience food as long as its not too hot! And bananas of course - I mean why go with the science option for a sportive when you are trying to cater for a variety of tastes?

Real food is more palatable for long days in the saddle - filled rolls work for me.

What ever you use it as to be palatable but the problems is everyone use different things. To drink I currently use the high 5 4:1 berry flavour. It's a bit like a milkshake but not too sickly sweet. I have used the SIS Go lemon lime before which is alright. As for food thoughnot a fan of any of the energy bars or gels. Another vote goes to the banana and I use dates and apricots along with flapjack(homemade so I know what goes in it). But has to be something you want to eat.

Don't really like any of the energy bars or drinks so I eat sweets and have the occasional gels. Torq banoffee is like rocket fuel :D :D :D
