Wow, that was tough!! It was raining when we set off and stayed like that all day. The riding conditions were appalling, just lucky that its all hard surfaces up there. Water everywhere! The very gritty conditions did play havoc with a lot of riders bikes and many dropped out due to worn part and mechanicals - the most common sight on the trail was bikes turned upside down with riders trying to change brake pads with cold fingers. I had two front pad changes and my forks started to pack down towards the last 30 miles of the ride. One guy I spoke to changed 4 sets of pads!
Chris C, Rich T and myself finished, poor Phil snapped his seat tube so his ride was over at 60 miles. Not sure how the others got on as I came home last night before I got the chance to see them.
Just under 13 hours for me and 'never again' I chuntered as I crossed the finish line. After a good nights sleep (with the assistance of a couple of Ibruprofen for those tired old knees) and I am already warming to next years race................
Many thanks Gill C for organising a memorable day.

Oh it was really hard but I can see again! Many thanks for the cheering at the end of the ride (not that I had a clue what was going on).
Is anybody missing a pair of shorts?
