Fred Whitton Entry

I had intended to compete in the Fred Whitton challenge again this weekend but it is with great regret that due to my ongoing achilles injury I will not be able to attend.   :x
Training was going to plan over the Easter period, I had completed 5 days in a row, doing 2 x 120 mile routes in the Dublin / Wicklow mountains in the process and thought that my ankle would stand the abuse it would take this Sunday, however day 6 I was out on a recovery ride - short hilly 60 miler and my achilles decided that enough was enough - half way round I had to phone for a lift back as I was cycling with only the use of one leg, such was the pain. Trip to a professional sports doctor through a local football team that my cousin plays for, confirmed that it is F**cked as the expression goes - got to rest it for at least a month or risk further injury and/or an operation, so it looks like my season is practically over before it has had a chance to start. Still aiming for the Sean Kelly Tour of Waterford in August but it might be a bit too much after such a long lay off.
I had offered this to someone prior to posting but it was too short notice so if anyone fancies doing the best and arguably the hardest Sportive in the UK this Sunday PM me for details

Sorry to hear your news as an entry in the Fred is not to be lightly discarded.

Not wanting to be harsh/critical but in a spirit of constructivity I'm not sure recovery rides are meant to be 'short hilly 60 milers' though - ? maybe a lesson here...

Dr Dave what can I say other than thanks for the constructive criticism!!!!

At the end of the day this was my plan to get as much training in as possible, after the 2 x 120 milers the 60 should have been a breeze and when I said hilly it wasn't wrynose or hardknott standard and was being done at a rather leisurely pace even by my standards.
